You’ll design hardware and firmware, migrate legacy AVR systems to ESP32, and bring new connected features to life in consumer and industrial electronics.\nJob Summary:\nThe Electrical Engineer (Embedded Systems) will be responsible for designing, coding, and integrating advanced features into our electrical products, taking them from concept through production. This role blends hands-on circuit design with embedded software development and requires the ability to adapt legacy systems to modern connected platforms.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDesign and implement embedded software for microcontrollers (Microchip AVR, ESP32).\nExperience with Atmel/Microchip AVR microcontrollers (e.g., ATtiny family) and migrating legacy designs to more capable platforms such as ESP32 for expanded I/O, wireless connectivity, and increased processing power.\nDevelop, test, and debug firmware to support wireless communication and mobile app integration.\nApply RTOS concepts (e.g., FreeRTOS on ESP32) for task scheduling and system stability.\nDesign and review PCB layouts using Altium Designer, ensuring DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Testability) best practices.\nAssist the Test Set Engineer by creating and laying out PCBs for product test fixtures.\nTroubleshoot and resolve issues across hardware, firmware, and integration layers.\nCollaborate with the product team to integrate new features, optimize product performance, and prepare designs for compliance and certification (UL, CE, FCC).\nDocument schematics, firmware revisions, and test procedures to ensure clear communication across engineering and production teams.\nSupport the full product lifecycle from concept, prototype, and testing through to production release.\nPerform design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.\nWork with external vendors and suppliers to evaluate components and ensure supply chain reliability.\nEducation & Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).\nFive (5) to eight (8) years’ product design experience with embedded coding.\nProven experience in embedded systems development (C/C++ for microcontrollers).\nHands-on experience coding Microchip microcontrollers and ESP32 platforms.\nStrong proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.\nFamiliarity with RTOS concepts and task management on embedded platforms.\nSolid understanding of electrical circuits, product design, and system integration.\nExperience with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi protocol implementation and mobile app integration.\nProficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).\nExperience using hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, in-circuit debuggers).\nBonus: Knowledge of IoT/cloud integration (MQTT, AWS IoT, Azure IoT, etc.).\nExperience preparing designs for compliance and certification (UL, CE, FCC).\nSkills, Knowledge and Abilities:\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware and firmware.\nExperience developing mobile applications or working with mobile app teams for integration.\nFamiliarity with product compliance and certification processes.\nAbility to bridge the gap between electrical circuits and software-driven functionality.\nStrong understanding of embedded security practices (secure bootloaders, encrypted communications, firmware updates).\nAbility to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications.\nAbility to manage multiple programs and projects effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.\nExceptional organizational and communication skills.\nCreative thinker with the ability to “think outside the box” to develop efficient products.\nAbility to mentor team members and share technical knowledge when needed.\nAbility to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.\nWhat We Offer:\nCompetitive salary and benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, 401k match, paid time off and tuition reimbursement).\nOpportunities for professional development and career advancement.\nA collaborative and supportive work environment.\nAbout Us:\nDITEK, a leader in surge protection solutions, is proud to have been voted one of Tampa Bay's Top Workplaces for 15 years in a row.
