You will have an opportunity to work in the field on road and bridge construction projects.\n\nThe person in this position will be responsible for leading and supervising a field staff in contract management, administration, field engineering services, and coordination of a mid to large size heavy highway construction projects. The candidate shall possess a strong background in construction management with residential streets, highways, bridges, utility relocation, trunk water main/sewer, retaining walls, stormwater pollution prevention implementation, traffic control review and related facilities. A person in this position is subject to occasional exposure to heavy traffic or adverse weather conditions. There are often interruptions to the work routine and the individual must be able to think clearly and act effectively under these conditions.\n\nPosting Locations\nChampaign, Effingham, Normal, Peoria, or Pontiac, IL\n\nJob Activities\n\nLead and supervise the construction inspection team.\n\nPlan, prepare, and analyze construction documents.\n\nManage construction contracts utilizing CMMS software.\n\nSupervise the preparation of inspector daily reports for inclusion on contractor progress payment estimates.\n\nDirect and assist staff in reviewing and analyzing contractor project schedules, staging plans, traffic control plans, and other required submittals to ensure they meet contract requirements and restrictions.\n\nMeet with contractors regularly to understand and review work plan and schedule, resolve issues in work areas, address scheduling concerns and sequence operations.\n\nAssign, schedule, supervise, review, and accept the work on behalf of client.\n\nEnsure that safety of personnel and the traveling public is paramount in all work activities.\n\nAdminister contracts and confirm compliance in accordance with contract plans and specifications. Oversee the activities of Construction Inspectors, Materials Coordinators, Office Engineers, and Administrative personnel.\n\nMonitor contractors' work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications, and legal requirements.\n\nConduct progress meetings and prepare reports on project status.\n\nCommunicate and implement safety policies, and procedures.\n\nRecognize and act promptly on potential changes or additional work, contract conflicts or ambiguities in the plans and specifications and changes in field conditions.\n\nNegotiate, analyze, resolve, settle, deny, and/or make recommendations regarding contractor conflicts and claims considering contract plans and specifications, estimates, conditions, costs, and time.\n\nConduct field visits to examine construction site conditions and issues.\n\nParticipate actively as key a member of the client's construction team for project delivery.\n\nSpecific Requirements\n\nBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) License.\n\n6 or more years of Resident Engineering experience for transportation projects.\n\n10 HR OSHA, IDOT HMA and Concrete Level 1, and IDOT Aggregates certifications.\n\nPartnering approach to Construction Management.\n\nExcellent oral and written communication skills.\n\nIDOT, Tollway, and/or Local Agency federally funded construction experience.\n\nAbout Farnsworth Group\nFarnsworth Group is a 135‑year‑old engineering, architecture, and surveying firm with over 600 talented professionals across a nationwide network of 24 offices.
