Part-time Controller

Location: Benton Harbor, MI Position Type: Part-Time Seeking a highly capable Controller to provide part-time oversight of our accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial statements, strengthening internal controls, improving month-end close processes, supporting budgeting and cash flow planning, and advising leadership on financial performance and compliance.This is a hands-on position ideal for a finance professional who enjoys working with small to mid-sized businesses and can operate both strategically and tactically.Key OutcomesAccurate, on-time monthly financial reporting leadership can rely onEfficient, organized month-end close with minimal errorsImproved cash flow visibility and proactive liquidity managementClear budget tracking with actionable variance explanationsConfidence in compliance (tax filings, reporting, and regulatory obligations)Stronger financial discipline across the organizationResponsibilitiesOversee and support accounting functions, including AP/AR and general ledger activitiesEnter vendor invoices into QuickBooks and manage related processesReconcile bank accounts and general ledger accountsRecord journal entries and prepare monthly financial statementsSupport budgeting, forecasting, and performance/cost analysisManage cash flow tracking and short-term cash forecastingAssist with collections and customer credit limit setupComplete weekly payroll and ensures payroll taxes are paid and filings are completed accuratelyPrepare payroll tax returns, 1099s, sales tax returns, use tax returns, and census reportingMaintain internal controls and improve processes/documentationProvide financial insights and recommendations to leadership QualificationsStrong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparationExperience managing month-end close and financial reportingStrong working knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting softwareAbility to build practical internal controls for a growing organizationStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsHigh integrity and ability to maintain confidentialityBachelor's degree or equivalent experience
