JOB TITLE: Animal Control Kennel Attendant I JOB CLASS: Part Time DEPARTMENT: Police Dept. /Animal ControlREPORTS TO: Animal Control Officer LOCATION: Animal ShelterFLSA STATUS: Non-ExemptWORK HOURS: Less than 29 hrs per week and less than 999 hrs per yearESSENTIAL*: NoPosition Summary:Under the general supervision of the Animal Control Officer, this position is responsible to ensure all the needs of the animals are met and maintaining the cleanliness of their living spaces. Kennel Attendant will work extensively with volunteers and rescue organizations to meet the requirement of the state and City ordinances. The person in this position will typically work 20 hours per week, weekends and will be required to be available for on-call duty with little or possibly no advance notice in order to meet the needs of the department.Duties and Responsibilities:Regular and timely attendance at work.Responsible for keeping all animals in shelter fed, watered and exercised.Maintain the shelter area by cleaning and sanitizing animal kennels, removing litter and debris, washing feeding utensils, pans, and equipment.Maintain the shelter for routine maintenance and monitor shelter for potential maintenance or repair issues.Maintain stock and storage rooms in a neat and organized manner, stock inventory of food, litter, cleaning supplies, boarding equipment, etc.Assist citizens in receiving and redeeming animals at the shelter.Assist with the animal adoption process.Responsible for networking of animals including all social media outlets.Respond to questions and concerns from the public.Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of basic business etiquette and protocolGeneral knowledge of animalsEffective in resolving and responding to customer concerns and complaints.Ability to work effectively in a diverse environment with a variety of individuals and remain calm in tense/extreme situations.Proficient in a variety of office equipment: phone, PC, copier, etc.Minimum Requirements:High School DiplomaValid Texas Driver's License Ability to obtain (and maintain) a Basic Animal Control certification by Texas Department of Health within one (1) year of employmentMust be able to pass a background check, essential job function screening, pre-employment drug screening, and physical fitness testEssential Position: N/APhysical Demands/Working Conditions:This position requires a combination of physical activities, including walking, sitting, standing, and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds. The role may also involve reaching, stretching, squatting, and bending. Work is primarily performed in outdoor environments, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The position also involves the use of cleaning agents such as Clorox, soap, and disinfectants. Employees will have direct contact with both domestic and wild animals, which may exhibit aggressive or unpredictable behavior. There is potential exposure diseases transmitted by animals.
