Each year, NHIS interviews around 30,000 households, randomly selects one adult and one child (if any) per household and collects health information for around 27,000 sample adults and 9,000 sample children. Staff is responsible for checking the quality of survey data collected by Census interviewers, preparing survey file documentation, analysis of survey data and subsequent dissemination of analytic products, providing technical support to NHIS data users. Staff is also responsible for data receipt and control and preliminary data quality checks of the NHIS survey responses, editing, recoding, processing and transformation of the data, and the generation of public use and restricted use data files and documentation files. Branch staff work closely and collaboratively with other staff in the Division to develop the content, ensure the quality of the data and metadata and produce release artifacts for public dissemination on the NCHS website.\nIn addition to NHIS, staff work on other surveys, such as Rapid Surveys System (RSS).
