America is facing a growing care crisis. Millions more people need care at home than ever. Over 50 million family caregivers support loved ones without the tools, training, or recognition they deserve.\n\nWe believe families are the largest untapped caregiving workforce in America, and that technology can help them deliver better care while driving stronger outcomes and greater transparency across the healthcare system.\n\nAbby Care combines clinical oversight with an AI-powered platform to train, enable, and support family caregivers in delivering high-quality care at home. Our platform helps health plans and government partners better understand, verify, and improve care in the home. We expand access to care, reduce reliance on higher-cost settings, and help ensure public dollars are spent effectively.\n\nWe are proud to partner with leading health plans, providers, and community organizations and are backed by top VCs. We envision a future where family-led care is a core part of the healthcare system. Abby Care is building that future.\n\nJoin us in solving one of the most important challenges of our time.\nThe Opportunity:\nWe’re looking for an experienced and driven individual to join us as a Software Engineer, Mobile (iOS & Android) reporting to the Director, Product Engineering. This is a full-time opportunity based in San Francisco, CA (4 days in-person).\nAbby Care is redefining family caregiving with AI-powered products and support. In this role, you’ll lead our mobile app development across iOS and Android and ensure the experience is delightful, easy-to-use, and robust for family caregivers. Our users are often not tech-savvy and may use the app in homes, facilities, or on the go—sometimes with spotty connectivity. You’ll build for real-world conditions, define a testing framework that reflects those scenarios, and ship improvements that families can rely on every day.\nWhat you'll work on:\nLead mobile app development end-to-end. You will take full ownership of the mobile development lifecycle, from concept to delivery. This includes shaping technical design, implementing core features, improving performance and stability, and managing release cycles for both iOS and Android.\nBuild a caregiver-first experience that is intuitive and resilient. You will design and implement user flows that are simple, guided, and forgiving—optimized for non-technical users. You will ensure the app works reliably in low-connectivity environments through offline-first and degraded-mode patterns (e.g., caching, sync, retries, conflict handling) and careful performance tuning.\nDefine and implement mobile testing frameworks grounded in real-world usage. You will establish a testing strategy and methodology that reflects how caregivers actually use the app (device variability, intermittent networks, backgrounding, interruptions, accessibility needs). This includes automated testing, regression coverage, monitoring/telemetry, and release quality gates to continuously improve app reliability.\nPartner with cross-functional teams to solve real-world problems. You will collaborate with operations, clinical, compliance, product, and design to build solutions that work in real caregiving workflows. You will be a critical voice in articulating technical tradeoffs and helping the team make product decisions that advance our mission.\nRaise the bar on mobile engineering excellence. You will set standards for code quality, architecture, observability, and security on mobile. You’ll contribute to scalable patterns for feature development, data handling, and API integration, while keeping quality and user trust at the center.\nWhat you'll have:\n2+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful experience building and shipping mobile apps.\nExperience developing for iOS and/or Android in production (native or cross-platform with tools like React-Native), including release management and debugging issues in the wild.\nStrong understanding of mobile fundamentals: performance, reliability, lifecycle, background execution, local storage, and networking.\nExperience designing for real-world constraints such as intermittent connectivity, device variability, and accessibility needs.\nExperience defining and implementing testing strategy for mobile: automated tests, CI, regression frameworks, and quality gates.\nExperience integrating mobile apps with backend APIs and modern authentication patterns.\nA Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.\nExperience with product development is preferred.\nExperience in the healthcare industry and at startups is preferred.\n\nNice to have:\nExperience with React Native or React\nExperience with offline-first or sync-heavy applications (queueing, retries, conflict resolution).\nFamiliarity with crash/performance monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog).\nExperience with mobile CI/CD (e.g., Fastlane, GitHub Actions) and feature flagging/rollout strategies.\nBenefits:\nCompetitive compensation packages that reflect the value you bring. We reward our team for the impact of their work.\nComprehensive health coverage that works for you. Choose from high-quality medical dental and vision options, including a $0 deductible PPO and a company-funded HSA, alongside employer-paid life and disability insurance.\nGenerous paid time off. We provide policies that allow you to recharge along with 10 paid company holidays.\nFinancial savings benefits to support your future. We support your financial well-being with HSA contributions, optional FSA and commuter benefits, and full coverage of all 401(k) account fees (employer match not currently offered).\nPaid parental leave to support your growing family. We provide paid leave, so you can focus on bonding and adjusting to life as your family grows.\nOur Values\nFamilies First\nRedefining healthcare starts with how we treat the parents and children we serve. We go above and beyond for every family, building strong, lasting relationships. We continually ask ourselves, “Would we want this for our own families?”\nUrgency with Precision\nMillions of families are waiting for care, and they cannot wait, therefore this is not your typical 9 to 5 job. We match their urgency with our own, delivering exceptional care without compromise. Here, speed and excellence go hand in hand.\nRelentlessly Resourceful\nAs an ambitious startup, we adapt quickly and make the most of limited time and resources. We solve challenges with creativity to deliver results without unnecessary complexity.\nPurpose with Positivity\nWe take our mission seriously while never losing sight of the people behind the work. Respect, kindness, memes, and coffee make us stronger as a team and better for the families we serve.\nDriven to Redefine What’s Possible\nWe are here to make healthcare better, which means asking hard questions, challenging outdated systems, and finding smarter, more compassionate ways to deliver care.\nAutomated Decision Tools\nAbby Care may use automated decision tools to help match and rank candidate work experience, education and skills found in online profiles, resumes and job applications against job requirements. We believe that these tools help ensure objective, data-based decisions during the hiring process, however, all Abby Care hiring decisions involve final human review and input.
