The individual will be part of a team of engineers who support the Company’s electrical control centers, providing guidance on optimizing the distribution system for safe, reliable, and resilient energy delivery while maximizing the value of clean energy resources.\nKey responsibilities include supporting multi‑disciplinary teams responsible for all phases of implementation: technology review and selection; defining project budget, scope, and schedule; project management; internal and external reporting and tracking; and stakeholder engagement.\nThe Engineer will also support efforts to research and develop plans for modernization opportunities, investigate new tools and technologies relevant to the modernization and control of the electric distribution system, and engage with external vendors and stakeholders to ensure industry best practices.\nEssential Functions Optimize the distribution system using DMS advanced functionality such as Automatic Feeder Reconfiguration (AFR), LoadVolt/VAR Management (LVM), Planned Outage Study, and DER/Load Forecasting.\nServe as a subject‑matter expert in real‑time technologies: ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var Optimization, and load shedding.\nCollaborate with system operations, IT, and engineering resources to ensure DMS functionality and future enhancements.\nSupport the specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications (FLISR, LVM, AFR, Load and Generation Scheduling).\nDevelop project approval documentation with needs statement, scope, technical solution description, alternatives considered, risks and mitigations, budget, and schedule.\nInvestigate new technologies and tools in the industry and assess relevance to the Company’s system operations.\nDevelop tools and methods to process and organize data from multiple sources to design and verify engineering models and databases.\nSupport multidisciplinary teams across three states—distribution engineering, system planning, substation engineering, telecommunications engineering, standards, system operations, field operations, IT, regulatory, legal, community relations, corporate strategy, and other groups—to ensure effective implementation of grid modernization programs.\nCommunicate the Company’s grid modernization initiatives externally and participate in industry forums to support best‑practice positioning.\nTechnical Knowledge, Skills, Education, Licenses, and Certifications Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts: load flow, stability, voltage regulation, power factor, losses, load and generation modeling.\nExperience modeling electric distribution systems.\nAbility to manipulate large datasets to deliver specific engineering results.\nComprehensive knowledge of electric distribution operational technologies: DMS, OMS, GIS, SCADA, EMS, Synergi/Cyme.\nBasic understanding of communication systems and protocols (e.g., DNP) used in SCADA control systems.\nStrong analytical skills, including experience with qualitative tools for strategic development.\nBusiness development aptitude with strong presentation skills.\nLeadership skills that effectively penetrate and work throughout the organization.\nProficiency in oral and written communications.\nIdeal Candidate Customer driven; displays initiative as a change agent with a can‑do attitude; accepts responsibility and holds others accountable; participates in and facilitates team effectiveness; makes sound decisions to support strategic objectives.\nEducation Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.\nExperience Three (3) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.\nLicenses & Certifications None.\nWorking Conditions Project work requires occasional travel throughout the service territory when teleconference is not an option. Work is performed primarily in an office environment that requires standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and writing and typing. Position will support the Company’s control room operators, which may require working weekends and off hours.\nProblem Solving & Complexity Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and remain self‑directed is required.
