Shop Manager / Production Manager

Job Description Title: Shop Manager / Small Production Plant ManagerReports to: Operations Director_________________________________________________________________________Summary: Our client runs a 15 person production operation involved with surface treatment / coating of metals and other parts used in production for clients in the aerospace, automotive, medical devices, military, and other manufacturing environments. They treat / coat parts with polymers, thermal coatings, powder coatings, etc. Someone from that environment or from a metal fabricator or paint shop or similar "job shop" type environment would be great. Coatings experience is a plus but not required. The key is someone that can manage a value added service industry operation with a smaller team of 15-20 production employees. The Shop Manager / Plant Manager is accountable and responsible for business operations of the plant. Plant Manager must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to 1) strong interpersonal skills to deal with customers, both internal and external; 2) effective verbal and written communication skills used in working with employees, customers, peers, vendors and Business Team Members; 3) initiative and leadership to build and sustain an environment where employees can grow and prosper; 4) project management skills to manage the process of providing excellent customer service; 5) broad depth knowledge in the areas of thermal, polymer or military paint spray coatings, processes and applications. 6) demonstrated ability to understand, manage, and resolve a wide range of employee and customer issues and 7) Ability to manage operations in a job shop environment which may require turning the plant over several times per month. 8) Maintain an environment that is clean and safe.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Ensure strict adherence to all local, State, and Federal laws and regulatory requirements with respect to Safety, Environment, Labor Relations, and Corporate Governance. Conduct quarterly meetings and audits and of our systems dealing with these requirements and keep up to date with changes in local, State and Federal laws.Responsible for all Treatment Management Systems, including Quality Assurance, Safety and Health. Maintain current knowledge of corporate and location policies and procedures. Communicate decisions and guidance on all business-related matters and provide oversight for business decisions. Review goals for feasibility and support of location and corporate goals.Develop and execute long and short-term business plans and strategies to include goals and staffing for the location. Ensure adequate staffing to fulfill long and short terms plans. Utilize the Company’s long-range corporate plans coupled with information on industry, economic, technical, and environmental trends to develop, implement, and execute these strategies. This includes the development and implementation of annual operational and sales plansEvaluate the company's ability to satisfy its customer present and the future needs and requirements. Provide adequate resources and staffing levels to meet or exceed these needs.Provide guidance, direction, and developmental opportunities that allow staff talents to be identified, coached, and prepared for advancement. Hire qualified personnel suitable for advancement when required.Provide managerial guidance to staff on reporting needs and requirements. Review reports and activities status, productivity, budget variance, and all other significant business issues monthly. Determine if corrective action is needed and direct timely changes which need to be made. Develop, maintain, and monitor the location's personnel, budget, and systems (equipment, hardware and software) to ensure that all Operational Goals will be met or exceeded as well as to ensure the continuity of Aalberts Surface Treatment. This includes identification, justification, and execution of capital expenditures (investments).Be available for consultations with Corporate and direct reporting Managers on as needed basis to provide direction necessary for day-to-day operations and to address cross-functional issues.Maintain a clean and organized work environment for all employees. Audit regularly and provide corrective action to the proper work areas.Responsible for creating and maintaining the daily production schedule to ensure proper workflow through the plant taking into consideration customer and company needs. Education:BS degree in Business Management or related field preferred. Will consider a lesser degree with a proven work history leading in a manufacturing environment.Experience:Work experience of 5-10 years manufacturing of which 3-5 years in a progressive leadership role.
