Operating Room Certified Surgical Technologist

Griffiss Surgery Center is looking for motivated candidates who have the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment. Surgical Scrub Technicians must be certified and/or grandfathered-in and possess the ability to follow operating room policies and procedures, and understand the standard operating room protocols such as assist in preparing operating rooms, assist with positioning patients on the OR table, must review cases prior to the start of each procedure and ensure that all of the equipment needed for the procedure is properly disinfected and assembled. They also check that the equipment is in working order. Assist with the sterilization of instruments as necessary. Assist surgeon as needed during the operation, by passing tools and instrumentation to the provider during the operating and Verify all instruments post-surgery and dispose of necessary items to keep sterile environment. The surgical technician must remain in O.R. at the end of case to help ensure safe patient transfer. Assists anesthesiologist and nurse to post-op unit as necessary, demonstrating the ability to meet safety precautions. Helps with room turnover to meet defined turnover time goals. Other skills include the ability to read and write to interpret schedule and prepare for operative procedures. Advanced knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. The ability to acquire necessary familiarity with surgeons' preferences; be able to accurately identify large volumes of surgical instruments and supplies and follow unit policies and procedures. Must possess interpersonal skills necessary to interact with surgeons, patients and other patient care personnel. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing technical tasks and anticipating surgeons' needs. Ability to stand for prolonged periods (more than eighty percent of work time) and to occasionally lift and position patients when preparing patients for operative procedures.
