Position OverviewThe Electrical Subject Matter Expert AKA Electrical Engineering Program Manager serves as technical authority for all mechanical and plumbing systems across commercial construction projects. This role supports preconstruction, estimating, procurement, and field operations by providing expert guidance on related building systems, including design, constructability, pricing, code compliance, and risk mitigation. The Electrical SME collaborates closely with project teams, trade partners, designers, and clients to ensure mechanical and plumbing scopes are accurate, efficient, and aligned with quality, safety, and financial objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesPreconstruction & Estimating SupportProvide technical oversight for electrical scopes during conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP phasesReview electrical drawings, specifications, and narratives for completeness, constructability, and coordinationAssist estimating teams with quantity validation, scope gap analysis, value engineering, and alternatesSupport subcontractor bid leveling, scope reviews, and contract clarificationsDesign & Engineering CoordinationAct as the primary electrical technical liaison with architects, engineers, and consultantsIdentify design conflicts, code issues, and constructability concerns early and recommend solutionsSupport design-assist and design-build efforts, including system selection and performance criteriaConstruction Phase SupportProvide technical guidance to project teams during construction and commissioningAssist with electrical RFI responses, submittal reviews, and change management supportSupport field teams with troubleshooting, sequencing strategies, and installation best practicesParticipate in commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities as neededStandards, Quality, & Risk ManagementEstablish and maintain electrical standards, checklists, and best practicesEnsure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (IMC, IPC, local AHJ requirements, etc.)Identify electrical-related risks and support mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecyclePromote safety, quality control, and consistency across all electrical installationsMentorship & Knowledge SharingServe as a technical resource and mentor to estimators, project engineers, and superintendentsContribute to internal training sessions and lessons-learned initiativesStay current on emerging technologies, materials, and market trends affecting mechanical and plumbing systemsQualificationsRequiredMinimum 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial electrical constructionStrong background in preconstruction, estimating, and/or project managementDeep knowledge of electrical systemsThorough understanding of IMC, IPC, local codes, and AHJ requirementsAbility to read and interpret construction documents at a high levelStrong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplinesPreferredElectrical license, PE, or equivalent technical certificationExperience with design-build or design-assist delivery methodsExperience supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projectsFamiliarity with electrical estimating and project management softwareCore CompetenciesTechnical expertise and problem-solvingConstructability and risk awarenessCost-conscious decision-makingClear communication and collaborationAttention to detail and qualityLeadership without direct authorityPhysical & Work RequirementsAbility to visit active construction sites as neededAbility to review drawings, specifications, and technical documents for extended periodsOccasional travel based on project needsCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary (commensurate with experience)Annual performance bonus eligibilityComprehensive health and dental benefitsRetirement savings planProfessional development and continuing education support
