Site Quality Engineer
Job DescriptionThis is a 2nd shift Quality Engineer roleOnsite: This role is categorized as onsite. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU WILL NEED GM IMMIGRATION SPONSORSHIP (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.The Role:As a Site Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for validating execution of Quality Systems requirements, which include all metrics of Voice of Customer (VOC), Initial, Long Term and Design Quality. Responsibilities also include monitoring progress to meet quality goals through common global process assessments, facilitating rapid containment of issues, installation of countermeasures and Leadership escalation, if required, to ensure Quality targets are achieved. A considerable amount of creativity and initiative will be involved, as well as a high level of independent judgment.What You'll Do (Responsibilities):Ensure Quality Assessments are performed, and all issues are contained/resolvedSupport production with containments as requiredRespond to production calls for potential quality issuesSupport Quality specialists to set up containment as requiredLead weekly quality reviews in each product line to support problem solving of top manufacturing controllable defectsWork with departmental Red X personnel to root cause internal and external defects, driving robust countermeasuresTakes broad challenges and, through independent professionally developed analysis, identifies and analyses options, and breaks them down into initiatives capable of implementation.Identifies opportunities and proposes solutions to improve internal processes, services, and structures to support functional strategies.Addresses and evaluates a diverse range of issues using innovative methods and proposing alternative approaches.Owns the development and delivery of solutions, driving cross team and group efforts.Manage projects as requested from Quality Manager.Managerial Courage to provide direct, honest, constructive feedback to Plant StaffsAbility to coach, teach and audit elements of GM Quality Manual and GMS BIQ Principle and Elements.Fully qualified individual contributor who has knowledge and understanding of all aspects of a function and exercises independent discretion and judgment on significant matters based on professional knowledge.Manage projects as requested from Quality Manager.Managerial Courage to provide direct, honest, constructive feedback to Plant StaffsAbility to coach, teach and audit elements of GM Quality Manual and GMS BIQ Principle and Elements.Serve as a mentor to more junior level employees, providing coaching and guidance on difficult issues.Works independently; receives minimal guidance.Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience5+ years of manufacturing environment3+ years of experience in qualityRed X trainedOral and written communication skills requiredHigh level or analytical ability and problem solvingKnowledge of GD&T, Global Manufacturing Systems & Built In QualityImplement process control requirements.Works with a high sense of urgencyMust be able to work 2nd/3rd shifts Must be able to work OT and weekends, as neededPosition is not a hybrid or remote job opportunityPreferred Qualifications:Proficiency and knowledge of the elements of the GM Quality System / GMS BIQ.Proficiency and knowledge of the requirements in the Global Quality Manual.GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
