After School Counselor

After-school Enrichment Counselors & Drivers supervise and ensure the safety of youth enrolled in the After-School Program. They provide a safe, fun, inviting environment and safe transportation from elementary and middle schools to the YMCA. Drivers and counselors also assist with homework and implement and deliver daily activities. They are expected to participate in, organize, and engage the children in daily enrichment activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervises a group of children. Safely transports youth and co-workers for after-school pick-ups. Delivers program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA core values. Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards. Attend staff meetings and trainings. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Maintain positive relations with participants, parents, and other staff. Requirements Driver/Counselors need to have strong communication skills, problem solving skills, & conflict resolution skills. Must be 21+ years of age Previous experience working with children preferably in an after school and/or day camp setting. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: mentoring, homework assistance, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred. Must have and maintain a clean driving record. Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
