The Outside Plant Engineer serves as a subject matter expert for all technical aspects of outside plant facilities and associated work, including cable sizing, cable counts, cable records, and permitting for rights-of-way (ROWs) and easements.\nThis position works as a team member with Network Planning, Central Office, Transmission, and Operations to support the growth, replacement, and upgrades of telecommunications plant facilities.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nThe duties listed below represent a range of responsibilities performed by the employee and are not intended to reflect all duties.\nProvide frontline project management for all construction activities associated with outside plant.\nPerform engineering design for outside plant systems.\nProactively review outside plant facilities to determine necessary upgrades and enhancements.\nCommunicate with state, county, city, and national entities to obtain information on planned projects involving growth and infrastructure changes.\nCoordinate with utilities for project design and construction to utilize joint trenching.\nCollaborate with internal departments to ensure proper project planning.\nMaintain accurate cable records and updates.\nAttend pre-construction meetings for project designs.\nApply for all required permits (State, DNR, City, County, Townships).\nMaintain and investigate ROWs and easements for releases.\nPrepare cost estimates for BDTs.\nRespond to DORs as needed.\nUpdate records based on as-built documentation.\nSupport sales, marketing, operations, and regulatory teams as needed.\nAssist in annual budget planning.\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent work experience), or a minimum of 3 years of experience in an outside plant role.\nExperience in outside plant construction project management and inventory management.\nExperience with ROWs, private easements, and permitting with local, state, and federal entities.\nDemonstrated knowledge of outside plant design, cable count layout, and capacity planning.\nMust possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nKnowledge of outside plant practices and engineering tools, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.\nStrong organizational, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills.\nStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with engineering teams, regional managers, vendors, supervisors, and technicians.\nAbility to manage multiple projects at various stages and meet critical deadlines.\nAbility to drive safely and responsibly on behalf of the company.\nPay: $30–$36/hour DOE\nShape the future.
