Prior aviation or UAS experience is helpful but not required.What You'll DoDevelop, maintain, upgrade, verify, validate, and exercise modeling and simulation toolsDesign, develop, assess, and refine models of system components, including:Sensors such as radar and electro-optical systemsTracking systemsDecision-support and collision-avoidance algorithmsPilot responseVehicle dynamicsConduct large-scale Monte Carlo and statistical simulations using cluster computing environmentsAnalyze simulation results and investigate failure conditions and system behaviorDebug and test software in Windows and Linux environmentsIntegrate new and legacy components into simulation architecturesIdentify and implement improvements to software and simulation infrastructurePlan, execute, document, and present analysis resultsCollaborate with internal engineering teams, external partners, and government sponsorsPrepare high-quality technical reports and presentationsGradually take on increased responsibility for direct sponsor interaction and technical presentationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related technical fieldApproximately 2+ years of relevant modeling, simulation, or engineering experienceStrong proficiency with MATLAB and SimulinkExperience specifying, developing, debugging, testing, and executing models and simulationsExperience with statistical methods and simulationFamiliarity with a compiled or object-oriented programming language such as C/C++, Java, Python, or similarExperience working in both Windows and Linux development environmentsFamiliarity with Git or another revision control systemStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to present technical findings to sponsors, collaborators, and other stakeholdersAbility to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and contribute effectively within a small engineering teamStrong master's-level research, thesis work, internships, or other directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of extensive professional experience.Preferred QualificationsMonte Carlo simulation and/or parallel or cluster computing experienceExperience with C/C++ programmingExperience generating, debugging, compiling, or executing C/C++ or Java code from MATLAB/SimulinkExperience integrating legacy and new subsystems into SimulinkFamiliarity with formal software development, verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) processesExperience with CMMI or DoD VV&A processesKnowledge of aircraft dynamics, airspace operations, Air Traffic Control, or aviation surveillance systemsFamiliarity with systems such as TCAS, ADS-B, or airborne radarExperience with surveillance tracking techniques or algorithms, including Kalman filteringWhy This Opportunity?Work on technically challenging problems involving UAS, airspace safety, modeling, and simulationApply MATLAB/Simulink expertise to large-scale, real-world engineering analysisWork with sophisticated Monte Carlo simulation environments and cluster computingCollaborate with experienced engineers and government sponsorsGain exposure to aviation and air traffic systems—prior aviation experience is not requiredOpportunity to take ownership of projects and present technical findings to external stakeholdersHybrid work environment with meaningful onsite collaborationTravel: Minimal.
