Our platform combines automated application processing with a dedicated operations team, and supports the complete client lifecycle including onboarding, subscription billing, application tracking, and internal workforce management.Position Summary:We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to take technical ownership of our document generation and job qualification pipeline — a distributed Python system that processes application volume continuously and produces tailored resume and cover letter documents at scale.The successful candidate will be responsible for the reliability, performance, and cost efficiency of this pipeline, and will lead its consolidation into a unified, well-instrumented platform. This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to the Founder, with full ownership of the backend processing domain.Key Responsibilities:Assume end-to-end ownership of the Python processing pipeline, comprising multiple FastAPI services and long-running background workers deployed as containerised applications.Consolidate the existing services into a unified, modular codebase with shared internal libraries, standardised configuration, and a single source of truth for common components.Lead the architectural refactoring of high-complexity processing modules to improve maintainability, testability, and throughput.Design and implement structured logging, metrics, monitoring, and alerting across the worker fleet, replacing ad hoc instrumentation with production-grade observability.Own the concurrency and scheduling model of the worker pool, including job prioritisation, retry and backoff behaviour, stuck-job recovery, and graceful shutdown.Manage integration with third-party LLM providers, including API key pooling, rate limit handling, quota management, and monitoring of per-unit processing cost.Implement secure credentials management across all backend services using AWS Secrets Manager and IAM role-based access.Maintain and improve the document generation pipeline, covering template rendering, DOCX and PDF conversion, and S3 storage and delivery.Establish automated testing and continuous integration for all backend services.Define deployment, release, and incident response practices for the backend platform.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Python backend development.Strong experience building and operating production services with FastAPI or a comparable framework.Demonstrated expertise in concurrent and asynchronous processing, including thread and worker pools, job queues, and distributed task coordination.Hands-on experience with AWS services, specifically DynamoDB, S3, IAM, and Secrets Manager.Proven experience operating long-running background workers in production, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving reliability issues.Practical experience integrating rate-limited third-party APIs, including retry strategy, backoff, and failure handling.Demonstrated experience consolidating or modernising fragmented codebases through incremental refactoring, without disruption to service availability.Working proficiency with Docker and containerised deployment workflows.Strong background in structured logging, monitoring, and production observability practices.Preferred Qualifications:Production experience with LLM APIs, including prompt management, output validation, model selection, and cost optimisation.Experience with document generation and conversion tooling, such as python-docx, LibreOffice headless, or PDF rendering libraries.Familiarity with managed queue and messaging systems, including AWS SQS, Celery, or Redis-backed workers.Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or AWS CDK.Working knowledge of TypeScript or Node.js, for integration with our primary web platform.Compensation: 8 LPA","company":"Applyrytcom","rawCompany":"applyrytcom","city":"Portland","state":"ME","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-09-27T09:52:46.041Z","occupations":[{"code":"15-1252.00","title":"Software Developers","slug":"software-developers"},{"code":"15-1299.08","title":"Computer Systems Engineers/Architects","slug":"computer-systems-engineers-architects"},{"code":"15-1254.00","title":"Web Developers","slug":"web-developers"}],"industries":[{"code":"513210","title":"Software Publishers","slug":"software-publishers"},{"code":"541511","title":"Custom Computer Programming Services","slug":"custom-computer-programming-services"},{"code":"541512","title":"Computer Systems Design Services","slug":"computer-systems-design-services"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Senior Backend Engineer (Python & Platform)","description":"About ApplyRyt:ApplyRyt is a technology-enabled job application platform that manages the end-to-end job search process on behalf of its clients.
