These rugged, high-reliability systems integrate processing, I/O, power, storage, networking, FPGA, and other specialized modules.\n\nThis is a principal, hands-on individual-contributor role spanning embedded Linux, boot software, board support packages, device drivers, microcontroller firmware, FPGA logic, hardware interfaces, and application-level software. The engineer possesses extensive knowledge within a specialty area and across related software, firmware, FPGA, and hardware disciplines. This individual provides technical leadership and applies new processes, tools, and skills to improve the organization’s capabilities.\n\nArchitect, develop, integrate, and maintain embedded software for mission-processing systems.\nLead embedded Linux, bootloader, BSP, device-driver, and board bring-up activities.\nArchitect and develop microcontroller firmware for power control, sequencing, monitoring, communications, fault management, and board management.\nDefine interfaces among processors, FPGAs, microcontrollers, storage devices, networks, and custom peripherals.\nLead the resolution of complex issues spanning applications, operating systems, drivers, firmware, FPGA logic, and hardware.\nProvide technical leadership for requirements, architecture, trade studies, reviews, verification, documentation, and releases.\nImprove engineering practices while collaborating across disciplines and mentoring other engineers.\n\nExperience:\n\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.\nMinimum eight (8) years of experience in a specialized functional discipline. OR (12) years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelors Degree. OR (6) years of experience may be considered w/ a Masters Degree. OR (3) years of experience may be considered w/ a PhD.\nExtensive embedded-software development experience for complex hardware platforms, including advanced C and C++ proficiency.\nStrong knowledge of embedded Linux, BSPs, bootloaders, device drivers, kernel integration, and board bring-up.\nStrong knowledge of embedded interfaces and system-level debugging across software, firmware, programmable logic, and hardware.\nAbility to lead architecture, implementation, integration, verification, configuration management, and controlled product releases.\nAbility to interpret technical requirements and hardware designs, mentor engineers, and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.\nExperience using JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.\n\nExperience supporting products through architecture, development, integration, qualification, production introduction, and sustaining engineering.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nAerospace, defense, avionics, space, or other high-reliability product development.\nARM, Power Architecture, or RISC-V platforms; real-time operating systems; and bare-metal development.\nAMD/Xilinx or Intel FPGA tools and embedded Linux environments such as Yocto, Buildroot, or PetaLinux.\nDevelopment of FPGA logic integration using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.\nAbout Frontgrade\nAt Frontgrade, we build mission-critical electronics that perform without compromise in the world’s most demanding environments, from deep space to national defense.
