GENERAL SUMMARY
The Sylvan Teacher is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students by teaching using Sylvan program materials. We work with students 1 on 1 in a small group setting so that each child receives the instruction and attention they need to succeed! The Sylvan Teacher evaluates student progress on each assignment, communicates this progress, and works with Center staff to ensure learning is personal for each student.

$18 per hour rate of pay
Strong ongoing leadership skills and job mastery will result in cross training for future administrative and leadership roles

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Passion and enthusiasm for working with students
Exceptional reading and literacy skills
Ability to multi-task and manage student learning
Commitment to a regular work schedule - one you create with our center director
PREFERRED: four year degree and state / provincial teaching credentials (current or expired), and relevant teaching experience. **teaching credential required to work with early literacy / phonics students (typically grades 2 or 3 and below).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student using the design of the Sylvan programs
Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment
Uses praise and encouragement, as well as Sylvan prize tokens, to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
Supports procedures to ensure student safety and well-being
Communicates specific student needs to Center staff
