Be involved in projects with our Bridge Structures Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction infrastructure projects in the public sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as bridges, signs, walls, and associated transportation facilities. Generates accurate and concise reports, plans, specifications, . Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.\nYour Impact\nPerform engineering techniques on a variety of assignments for structural elements under supervision.\nReview submittals and shop drawings\nPrepare design calculations for projects.\nPrepare load ratings.\nPerform project-specific analyses.\nPrepare necessary plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memorandums.\nUtilize technical knowledge to propose creative solutions and solve complex technical problems.\nCompile reports.\nDevelop an understanding of project finances.\nAssist in developing schedules and objectives for the project and/or work of field staff.\nUse necessary computer software tools and applications to solve difficult engineering problems.\nPerform work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.\nCoordinate closely with the team on projects, as well as other disciplines as needed, to support client needs.\nCoordinate and manage tasks within projects.\nParticipate in structural or project-related team meetings.\nSeek to develop client relationships.\nExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.\nProvide mentorship and training to entry-level engineers.\nPerform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.\nWho You Are\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.\n5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.\nIllinois SE license, or ability to obtain an Illinois SE license within 1 year\nProficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.\nExperience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.\nAbility to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.\nStructural Task Management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.\nEffective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.\nHighly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.\nAbility to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.\nProficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., Bentley products, MDX, CSiBridge, LPile, LARSA, Staad, Midas, Leap Bridge, Mathcad, Excel).\nBasic CADD skills using MicroStation.\nDeveloped critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.\nProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.\nDriver’s license, and the ability to drive to project sites as project needs arise required.\nAbility to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.\nWork out of our downtown Chicago office in-person a minimum of 3 days per week.\nOccasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.\nPreferred Qualifications\nMaster’s Degree in Engineering.\nEssential Professional Licensure/Certification.\nExperience managing structural tasks on small to mid-size transportation projects.\n#LI-SM1\n\nAbout WSP\nWSP USA is the U.S. operating company of WSP, one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
