Senior Advisor or Director (Communications): Toronto, Ottawa, or Montréal

PAA Advisory | Conseils is continuing to grow its national Communications practice, with a focus on corporate communications, and is looking for a high judgement, client facing consultant to join our Toronto (preference), Ottawa, or Montréal teams. We work with senior leaders at some of Canada’s most recognized organizations, supporting them through moments that matter, from profile building and executive positioning to complex issues, policy shifts, and reputational risk. Our approach is hands on, integrated, and built to operate as an extension of our clients’ teams.You will work closely with colleagues across Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, and Québec City, as well as with trusted affiliates in Eastern, Central and Western Canada, delivering coordinated, national mandates.Our team is collaborative, fast growing, and genuinely enjoys working together. What matters most is sound judgement, strong instincts, and the ability to operate in fast moving, high stakes environments while maintaining the ability to manage client relationships with high standards of quality.What You’ll DoLead day to day communications counsel for clients, with a focus on corporate PR, issues management, and reputationBuild trusted relationships with senior clients and become a go-to advisor over timeAnticipate client needs and bring forward ideas, not just respond to asksTranslate complex business objectives and goals into clear, credible communications strategiesAdvise senior leaders on messaging, positioning, and media approach in both proactive and reactive situationsLead and execute media relations, including shaping stories and managing sensitive or high-pressure situationsAnticipate and assess emerging issues with potential business riskDevelop high quality materials, including key messages, briefing notes, Q&A, and executive contentWhile this role is not government-focused, you will support integrated mandates alongside government relations colleagues, particularly where policy and communications intersectContribute to business development, including identifying opportunities and helping grow client relationshipsSupport and mentor junior team members, contributing to a strong, collaborative cultureWhat We’re Looking For8-10+ years of experience in agency, corporate communications, or a related environmentPrior agency experience is essentialStrong grounding in corporate PR, with exposure or experience in issues or crisis situationsA clear understanding of the Canadian media landscape, particularly in TorontoInterest in policy, politics, and how they shape business and reputationStrong instincts and sound judgement: you know when to push, when to hold, and how to advise clients accordinglyExcellent writing skills, you can distill complexity into clear, credible language quicklyComfortable managing multiple accounts and shifting priorities without losing qualityComfortable working directly with senior clients and internal stakeholdersSelf-starter mindset, you take ownership, anticipate needs, and move things forwardWhy PAA You will work directly with senior leaders, both internally and on the client sideYou will be part of an integrated communications and government relations teamYou will collaborate nationally across offices and regions on complex mandatesYou will be given real responsibility and autonomyYou will be joining a tight knit, high performing, and growing teamPAA Advisory | Conseils Working at PAA Advisory | Conseils you will be part of a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to making a meaningful impact in public affairs and strategic communications.
