Registered Nurse (RN) | Postpartum

Avera Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Postpartum unit within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide holistic, family-centered nursing care to mothers and newborns during the immediate post-delivery period through discharge. Working collaboratively with obstetricians, pediatric providers, lactation consultants, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will perform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and continually evaluate patient responses to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include monitoring maternal vital signs and postpartum recovery, assessing uterine tone and bleeding, managing pain and comfort measures, assisting with early ambulation, and recognizing and responding to signs of potential complications such as postpartum hemorrhage or infection. You will also provide thorough newborn assessments, support thermoregulation, feeding, and bonding, administer ordered medications and vaccinations, and ensure safe infant care practices. A central focus of this position is patient and family education; you will coach new parents in breastfeeding and bottle-feeding techniques, newborn care, safe sleep practices, and postpartum self-care, while providing emotional support during the transition to parenthood. Consistent with Avera Health's culture of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, you will foster a welcoming, respectful environment for diverse families, advocating for patient preferences and cultural needs. You will document care accurately in the electronic health record, follow evidence-based protocols and infection-prevention standards, and participate in unit-based quality and safety initiatives. As part of a collaborative nursing team, you will precept or mentor newer staff as appropriate and contribute to continuous improvement of clinical practice on the postpartum unit. Avera Health offers a supportive environment that encourages ongoing professional development, including access to education, certifications, and advancement opportunities within a regional healthcare network dedicated to improving patient outcomes across the Upper Midwest.
