JOB SUMMARY:
The Chassis Mechanic will perform mechanical repairs and inspections in a rail road ramp type environment from a Mobile Service Unit. The employee will perform all types of chassis repairs including brake jobs, welding, cutting with a torch and repairing and replacing parts on the chassis using standard repair tools. Some minor container repairs, patches, door latches and hinges type of work. Repairs will be conducted based on estimates written by an M&R Supervisor and based off of roadability issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform FMCSA chassis inspections
Perform container chassis repairs of all types
Perform light container repairs
Change tires as necessary
Maintain Parts Inventory
Strictly adhere to all safety rules and regulations
Communicate with management on space requirements, backlog of work, inventory issues, etc.
Work and repair chassis according to TRAC Chassis Pool Repair Guidelines
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required
At least 2 years of experience in chassis mechanics, usage and customary repair methods
Some experience with minor container repairs
At least one year of experience in MIG and/or ARC welding
Knowledge of FMCSA, AAR, and DOT rules and criteria
Ability to work independently without direct supervision
Ability to meet TRAC driver’s license standards
Able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
Proficiency with computer systems
Ability to read and write legibly
Ability to repair units to a provided standard in accordance with all TRAC safety procedures
Ability to work within a process-oriented, team atmosphere
Must meet minimum FMCSA requirements
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks
Must provide their own set of basic tools, list to be provided by TRAC
Ability to ensure the proper handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outdoors with potential for extreme heat or cold conditions

Manipulate and/or move objects up to 75 lbs.
Frequently required to work at both outside and indoor facilities in all weather conditions
Frequently required to communicate, understand and exchange information
Frequently required to use tools and electronic devices
Ability to visually observe details at close range
Must use the appropriate required PPE for the task being performed
Routine exposure to loud noises
Pay estimate: $22-28/hr depending upon experience
