In this role, you will be employed by Relative Dynamics and assigned to work on projects in support of USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center.\n\nRelative Dynamics is seeking a Software/Database Engineer in Sioux Falls, SD, to support the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring consistent collaboration with team members, scientists, and mission partners. This role is not eligible for remote work.\n\nIn partnership with NASA and the Landsat project, this position supports Landsat product generation, which processes satellite imagery used by scientists, researchers, government agencies, and organizations around the world. You will develop and optimize database infrastructure that supports operational satellite data processing and future Earth observation initiatives.\n\nWhat You'll Get to Do:\n\nContribute to meaningful, mission-critical Earth science initiatives\n\nDevelop software supporting one of the world's longest-running satellite programs\n\nWork alongside experienced engineers and scientists who value innovation\n\nApply advanced database engineering techniques to large-scale database systems\n\nSolve complex performance and scalability challenges\n\nWork with modern cloud technologies and scientific data-processing platforms\n\nDesign, develop, and maintain database components\n\nDevelop software primarily in Python\n\nOptimize workflows to reduce runtime and improve overall efficiency\n\nDesign and maintain applications that write to and query relational databases\n\nSupport cloud-based architecture and workflows\n\nPerform software planning, requirements refinement, and technical design activities\n\nDevelop, execute, and document unit and integration tests\n\nTroubleshoot operational processing issues and implement corrective actions\n\nParticipate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions\n\nCollaborate closely with Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Scientists, and mission stakeholders\n\nWhat You'll Need:\n\nRequired Experience\n\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline.\n\nThree or more years of professional software engineering or database development experience\n\nExperience developing software in Python within Linux/Unix environments\n\nExperience supporting cloud computing environments\n\nExperience interfacing with relational database systems\n\nThree years of continuous residency in the United States for issuance of a Government Security credential\n\nAbility to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for facility access\n\nRequired Skills\n\nStrong proficiency in Python programming\n\nExperience writing software that interfaces with databases\n\nRelational database experience\n\nLinux/Unix expertise\n\nExperience improving software performance and decreasing processing runtime\n\nStrong understanding of software development lifecycle practices\n\nExperience with Git-based source control management\n\nExcellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills\n\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a highly skilled technical team\n\nDesired Qualifications/Skills\n\nAWS cloud services experience\n\nPostgres database experience\n\nExperience with AI-assisted software development and documentation tools\n\nExperience with Parquet\n\nWhat You'll Enjoy:\n\nGrow your career with mobility, continuous learning, tuition reimbursement, and a personal development program in a culture that rewards innovation and impact\n\nJoin a high-performing team that works together on meaningful, mission-driven work and support each other.\n\nEnjoy comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life/disability coverage, 401(k) with match, PTO, company holidays, and community engagement opportunities\n\nRelative Dynamics conducts a comprehensive background check that includes drug testing.
