Director of Curriculum/ Attendance (Central Office)

Job Summary Role Description POSITION TITLE: Director of Curriculum / Attendance QUALIFICATIONS: • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution • At least five years successful experience as a classroom teacher. • Valid certification as administrator and/or supervisor • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills • Ability to lead, manage and support strategic and operation goals of the system in areas of responsibility • Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable JOB GOAL: Curriculum: To provide effective coordination and direction of school instructional programs throughout the school system. Attendance: To oversees district-wide student attendance operations by ensuring compliance with state regulations, supporting schools with attendance procedures and reporting, addressing truancy and residency concerns, and monitoring attendance data to improve student engagement and reduce chronic absenteeism. REPORTS TO: Superintendent SUPERVISES: Assigned faculty and staff PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum • Provides effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and instructional programs. • Coordinates the efforts of principals, teachers, and advisory committees in improving and updating the curriculum, policies, and guidelines for all grade levels. • Develops system for fiscal responsibilities pertaining to documentation of expenditures, purchase orders, invoices, inventories, and preparation of budgets and amendments. • Prepares and submits state and local plans/reports and leads preparation of school and district plans in a timely manner. • Interprets, supports, and complies with federal and state laws and state and local board policies. • Supervises the direct work of all instructional/reading specialists. • Assumes a leadership role in developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature, State Department of Education or the Tarrant City Board of Education. • Recommends the addition of new courses, grade placement of courses, credit allowance for courses, and graduation requirements. • Provides leadership in the development of a correlated and integrated program of instruction for kindergarten through 12th grade in all areas of instruction. • Works with post-secondary institutions to facilitate programs, including, but not limited to, dual enrollment and early college. • Works closely with system and school staff to support school improvement initiatives and processes. • Researches, develops and assesses adoption of appropriate instructional materials, methodology, and programs for schools. • Oversee the budget and purchasing of instructional materials, textbooks, and/or resources. • Serves on multidisciplinary teams to address needs of students, including students from special populations, to ensure data-informed implementation of appropriate services, programming, and/or placement. • Oversees and provides training to school level administrators and staff related to ACIP/RTI/PST/MTSS to support the learning environment to remove any barriers students may have related to increasing academic achievement. • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Attendance • Serve as the district attendance liaison between the local school system, school-based personnel, and the Alabama State Department of Education regarding attendance policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. • Monitor and ensure district compliance with state attendance laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. • Assist school-level administrators with generating, reviewing, and analyzing attendance reports to identify trends, concerns, and intervention needs. • Provide training and support to school attendance personnel on accurate attendance entry and coding procedures within PowerSchool. • Support school attendance personnel in running daily, weekly, monthly, and annual attendance reports. • Review attendance records for accuracy and work collaboratively with schools to correct discrepancies and resolve data issues. • Assist schools in preparing and distributing absentee notification letters and other attendance-related parent communications in accordance with district and state requirements. • Maintain and monitor district-wide attendance data to identify chronic absenteeism trends and schools or student groups requiring additional support. • Develop and present attendance reports and data summaries for district leadership, board members, and state reporting purposes. • Attend Early Warning Court proceedings and collaborate with juvenile court officials, school administrators, counselors, and families to address student attendance concerns. • Conduct home visits, when necessary, to support student attendance improvement efforts and strengthen communication between schools and families. • Investigate, verify, and assist in resolving student residency and enrollment concerns in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. • Collaborate with principals, counselors, social workers, and other district personnel to implement attendance intervention strategies and support student success. • Provide guidance and technical assistance to schools regarding truancy prevention procedures and attendance intervention documentation. • Maintain confidential student records and ensure compliance with all applicable privacy laws and district policies. • Support district initiatives focused on improving student attendance, reducing chronic absenteeism, and increasing student engagement. • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: EVALUATION: Twelve-month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Tarrant City Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
