Botetourt County Public Schools Job Descriptions www.bcps.k12.va.us Job Title: Adult Basic Education Instructor Job Classification: (Part-time) $28.00 per hour Job Summary: Region Five Adult Education is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor. The GED position will be responsible for instructing approximately 5 hours per week with 2 hours of planning. The instructor is responsible for classroom instruction and evaluating students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Self-motivated and able to work at a standalone satellite site in the region. Ability to manage and maintain a professional classroom, providing instruction to adult participants whose basic skill ranges vary. Possess working skills in the use of technology to deliver Distance Education instruction, communicate via e-mail, and teach basic computer skills to the adult learner. Additionally, this position will report to the Regional Program Manager. Essential Duties:Prepare all lessons for the GED class. ? Prepare lessons that are aligned to the College and Career Readiness (CCRS) standards for classroom instruction and obtain or prepare instructional materials for classroom use. ? Evaluate students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives. ? Analyze learners' needs through assessment of progress through assessment tools mandated by the state. ? Use appropriate techniques to address individual learning styles. ? Allow for individual as well as group learning by use of methods preferred by the adult learner. ? Assist in the data keeping for class by accurately recording attendance, client progress, reasons for leaving, etc., for all learners. ? Record and submit client data, attendance hours, and all certificates obtained to Region Five Adult Education monthly. ? Plan, organize, and participate in staff development and team conferences. ? Other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a related field and have prior experience teaching basic academic skills to adult learners in an open-entry, multi-level classroom.Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skillsExpert skills for oral and written communicationAbility to adapt instructional material to fit all learning stylesAbility to maintain accurate recordsKnowledge of effective instructional methods for adult learnersKnowledge of community needs within the Service Delivery AreaThe ability to keep accurate records and incorporate current technology into the classroom environmentCommunicate and work with a diverse population of individuals and groupsEstablish and maintain constructive relationshipsAdapt to changing work priorities Additional QualificationsBachelor's degree and experience in teaching core skills and specific subject matter required.Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, teachers, and school board. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Physical Demands Work is typically performed in a classroom or office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects to a light to medium weight. A full range of hand and finger motions may be utilized for data entry purposes. If the job involves driving, physical requirements include the ability to operate a vehicle and sit for extended periods.
