This individual will manage a small design team, collaborate directly with clients and internal stakeholders, and oversee projects from concept development through installation. The successful candidate will actively participate in design efforts, engineering reviews, client collaboration, and technical problem-solving while providing leadership and direction to the design team.\n\nResponsibilities\nLead, mentor, and develop a team of 3 Designers/CAD Professionals.\nAssign project responsibilities and monitor workload across multiple concurrent projects.\nProvide technical guidance and design oversight throughout all project phases.\nCollaborate closely with manufacturing, project management, and leadership teams.\nSupport hiring, onboarding, and development of future engineering and design staff.\nDevelop mechanical designs from concept through final production documentation.\nCreate and review 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and engineering documentation.\nPerform engineering analyses and calculations related to structural integrity, fatigue, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.\nIdentify design risks and implement practical engineering solutions.\nCoordinate with third-party engineering firms and licensed Professional Engineers when required.\nWork directly with customers and creative teams to transform conceptual ideas into functional engineered solutions.\nParticipate in concept development, design reviews, and client presentations.\nInterpret creative requirements and balance performance, manufacturability, safety, reliability, and budget considerations.\nSupport multiple projects simultaneously across various stages including concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, fabrication, testing, and installation.\nEnsure project schedules, technical requirements, and deliverables are achieved.\nCreate and review engineering calculations, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), installation packages, and technical documentation.\nEnsure designs comply with applicable industry standards and customer requirements.\nMaintain engineering documentation and revision control processes.\nEssential Skills\nBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\n8+ years of mechanical design engineering experience.\nExperience leading projects from concept through fabrication and implementation.\nPrior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising engineers, designers, or technical teams.\nExperience working in highly customized, project-driven engineering environments.\nAdvanced proficiency with SolidWorks.\nWorking knowledge of AutoCAD.\nStrong understanding of mechanical design, structural fundamentals, stress and fatigue analysis, manufacturing processes, and design for fabrication.\nAbility to develop engineering calculations and evaluate mechanical system performance.\nAdditional Skills & Qualifications\nExperience within themed entertainment, attractions, amusement rides, show action equipment, special effects, theatrical systems, or related industries.\nExperience with custom machinery, automation systems, motion systems, or specialty equipment.\nExperience with Revit and BIM environments.\nFamiliarity with amusement industry standards and safety requirements.\nExperience coordinating with external engineering consultants and Professional Engineers.\nWork Environment\n\nJoin a 35-person company where the design department reports to the President and consists of one lead and three designers.
