Substation LeadmanWork directly with a Foreman and learn how to properly direct the planning, lay-out, installation, testing, repair, or maintenance of high voltage substation wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts, equipment and control stems in generating stations, substations, and in-service relays in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. Learn to plan and coordinate the efforts of the craft workers under his/her supervision and motivate them to accomplish the work safely, correctly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform all of the principal duties and accountabilities of craft workers under his/her supervision
Lead and support all safety related processes and programs as requested
Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries
Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional
If needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved
Learn to create and execute a one week schedule
Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested
Review crew's timecards for correct hours and activity designation
Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor
Learn to lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning in the appropriate format
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards
Assure all crew members understand, participate, and sign all pre-job safety planning tools at start and end of shift
Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices
Understand, support, implement, and follow lockout/tag out procedures
Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training
Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment
Use effective verbal and written communication skills
Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately
Listen to other co-workers and supervisor's suggestions, concerns and recommendations giving full attention to what they are saying and take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions and providing feedback when appropriate
Report information to Foreman
Coordinate and communicate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job
Provide on-the-job training to those individuals under his/her supervision
Train/teach safety practices, policies and procedures related to an employee's assigned tasks
Receive training on administrative duties which include but are not limited to filling out daily reports, material requisitions, coordinating equipment and suppliers etc
Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of that work assigned
Plan and communicate with supervisor to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment are available
Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and the related parts of the project
Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications and schedule as they relate to that portion of the work assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
One or more of the following certifications: NCCER Electrician, NCCER Carpenter, NCCER Concrete Finisher, NCCER Heavy Equipment Operations, NCCER Rigging
For Crane Operations, an OSHA approved certification is required (ie NCCCO or CIC Certification)
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have working experience as a Substation Journeyman or equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial construction setting
Strong working knowledge of the project specifications and high voltage electrical and civil industry standards
Must have working knowledge of electrical substation components, fabrication and erection of forms with thorough knowledge of steel framed forms (i.e. Symons); fabrication and placement of rebar including proper tying techniques; and placing, finishing and sealing concrete, and of the construction, testing, maintenance, and repair of substations
Will be trained to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity for the members of his/her crew
Ability to understand and follow directions
Must have all necessary tools (see Substation Tool List)
Must be at least 18 years of age

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Physical Demands: Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas, see and hear naturally or with correction. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. Requires repetitive movement. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
Work Environment: Typical construction site environment. Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Work around hazardous equipment. This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
