Durham Technical Community College is looking for a skilled and experienced Communications Supervisor to join our Campus Police and Public Safety Department. Under general direction of the Director/Chief of Police, this position is responsible for office support related to Campus Police and Public Safety Department records. This position performs a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and data entry in computers, applying various procedures and codes; general assistance to the public; supports goals and objectives of the department; with other duties as assigned. Ensures accurate and confidential record keeping to maintain compliance with the\nClery Act, Uniform Crime Reports, The Higher Education Opportunity Act, Title IX, HIPPA\nand FERPA.\n3. Serve as lead Terminal Agency coordinator, conduct file maintenance, audits, and\nvalidations as required.\n4. Provide training and information to subordinates regarding procedural changes and\ncurrent legal and operations information affecting emergency and non-emergency\npolice services.\n5. Ensure the operational readiness of telecommunication equipment and has the ability\nto troubleshoot and make adjustments when needed.\n6. Maintain various logs, indexes, records, and prepare special reports as needed.\n7. Coordinate handling of emergencies and operational problems with the personnel in\ncharge.\n8. Provide responsible administrative and technical assistance to Director/Chief of\nCampus Police Chief and/or any officer in charge.\n9. Contact other agencies to coordinate public safety operations.\n10. Maintain responsibility for proper storage, updating and release of police records and\nassociated files.\n11. Perform all duties of a dispatcher during staff shortages.\n12. Follow written and oral instructions and procedures.\n13. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, by using proper English grammar,\nspelling and punctuation.\n14. Collect, compile, and analyze information and data\n15. Seek resources and opportunities for employee training and growth.\n16. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director/Chief of Campus Police,\nSenior Vice President, or President.\nSkills:\n1. Possess significant expertise and understanding of all areas of the telecommunications\ncenter.\n2. Ability to disseminate information quickly and monitor multiple systems simultaneously.\n3. Thorough understanding of emergency response policies and procedures used to\nsupport the campus community and the public.\n4. Ability to communicate effectively when responding to calls or presenting information\nto the public, campus community, or other public safety agencies.\n5. Skilled in using a variety of communication and security equipment including but not\nlimited to radios, switchboards/phones, fire alarms, cameras, security/ surveillance\nsystems, and computers.\n6. Knowledge of concepts, practices, and theories of systems in an emergency\ncommunications center.\n7. Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships in complex and/or\ncrisis situations to achieve a successful resolution or outcome.\n8. Ability to maintain police records and reporting statistics.\n9. Considerable knowledge of established formats for logs and data systems.\n10. Ability to explain and interpret data and systems to train telecommunicators.\n11. Ability to produce accurate statistical reports.\n12.
