The Material Controller is responsible for the efficient and effective management of tools and equipment within the tool room, supporting the overall productivity and safety of the yard.\n\nDuties/Responsibilities:\nInventory Management:\nMaintain an accurate inventory of all tools, equipment, and supplies in the tool room.\nTrack stock levels and reorder supplies as needed to ensure availability.\nTool Distribution:\nIssue tools and equipment to employees based on their needs and the requirements of their jobs.\nRecord and document the distribution and return of tools.\nInspection and Maintenance:\nInspect tools for damage or defects before issuance and upon return.\nCoordinate with maintenance or repair personnel to ensure tools are in good working condition.\nRecordkeeping:\nKeep detailed records of tool transactions, including issuance, returns, and repairs.\nGenerate reports on tool usage, loss, or damage.\nOrganization:\nOrganize the tool room to ensure efficient access to tools and equipment.\nImplement a system for labeling and categorizing tools to facilitate easy retrieval.\nSafety Compliance:\nEnsure that all tools meet safety standards and are in compliance with relevant regulations.\nProvide guidance to employees on the proper use and handling of tools.\nCustomer Service:\nAssist employees in locating and selecting the appropriate tools for their tasks.\nAddress and resolve issues related to tool availability or condition.\nTraining and Orientation:\nProvide training to new employees on the procedures for tool checkout and return.\nCommunicate any changes in tool room policies or procedures to relevant personnel.\nSecurity:\nImplement security measures to prevent theft or unauthorized access to the tool room.\nMonitor and control access to the tool room.\nCommunication:\nMaintain effective communication with various departments to understand their tool needs.\nCollaborate with purchasing or procurement departments to ensure timely replenishment of tools and supplies.\nProblem Resolution:\nAddress and resolve issues related to lost or damaged tools.\nInvestigate discrepancies in tool records and take appropriate corrective actions.\nCompliance with Policies:\nEnsure adherence to company policies and procedures related to tool management.\nStay informed about industry best practices and recommend improvements to the tool management process.\nRequirements:\nRequired Skills/Abilities:\nExcellent interpersonal and customer service skills.\nExcellent organizational skills and attention to detail.\nExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.\nAwareness of safety protocols and the ability to adhere to them to prevent accidents and injuries in the tool room.\nAbility to verbally communicate and interact with employees, provide assistance, and convey information about tools and supplies.\nGeneral knowledge of tools and materials used for ship building.\nAbility to prioritize tasks.\nAbility to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.\nEducation and Experience:\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\nAt Least Two Years’ Related Experience Preferred.\n\nPhysical Requirements:\nLifting and Carrying:\nAbility to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment up to 50 lbs,\nCapability to handle bulky or awkwardly shaped items.\nStanding and Walking:\nExtended periods of standing and walking while managing the tool room and assisting employees.\nManual Dexterity:\nFine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle small tools and perform detailed tasks, such as inspecting and maintaining tools.\nRepetitive Motion:\nAbility to perform repetitive tasks, such as scanning barcodes, organizing tools, and completing paperwork.\nBending, Climbing and Stooping:\nFlexibility and physical agility to bend, climb, and stoop, and reach low or high shelves for tool retrieval and organization.\nVision:\nGood eyesight to inspect tools for damage or defects and to read labels and documentation.\nFine and Gross Motor Skills:\nCoordination and control of both fine and gross motor skills are essential for tasks like handling delicate tools and moving heavier equipment.\nPhysical Stamina:\nAdequate physical stamina to handle the demands of a dynamic tool room environment, including fast-paced periods of tool issuance and return.
