We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented laboratory professional who takes pride in accuracy, teamwork, patient-centered care, and excellent service.\n\nPosition Responsibilities\n\nThe MLS/MLT will:\n\nPerform routine and complex laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures and physician orders.\nAnalyze blood, urine, and other body fluids to assist with diagnosis and treatment.\nCollect, identify, label, and process patient specimens using appropriate procedures.\nPerform blood bank testing, including preparation and verification of blood products and compatibility testing for transfusions.\nPerform quality control and calibration procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.\nReview and validate laboratory results for completeness and accuracy prior to reporting.\nReport laboratory results accurately and timely to support clinical decision-making.\nPrioritize STAT and urgent testing, particularly in support of hospital and emergency department patient care.\nCommunicate critical values and abnormal results promptly to the appropriate clinical staff.\nTroubleshoot laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs.\nMaintain laboratory instruments, supplies, and inventory.\nDocument testing, maintenance, and quality control activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.\nMaintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment while following infection control and safety protocols.\nParticipate in training and mentoring students and new staff as needed.\nUtilize SQSS and follow hospital requirements related to accreditation and regulatory compliance.\nFollow HIPAA, hospital policies and procedures, and all applicable laboratory safety standards.\nParticipate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.\nRespond appropriately in emergency and disaster situations.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nWhat We're Looking For\n\nThe successful candidate will demonstrate:\n\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.\nA commitment to patient-centered care and excellent customer service.\nAbility to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team.\nAbility to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced hospital environment.\nProficiency with laboratory equipment, computer systems, and technology.\nConsistent adherence to safety, infection control, and laboratory standards.\nDependability and willingness to work the night shift and participate in on-call responsibilities.\nQualifications\n\nMedical Laboratory Technician (MLT):\n\nAssociate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or completion of at least 60 semester hours, including biology and chemistry, from an accredited institution.\nMLT certification preferred.\nPrevious clinical laboratory experience preferred.\n\nMedical Laboratory Scientist (MLS):\n\nBachelor's-level education and laboratory qualifications appropriate for an MLS position.\nMLS certification preferred.\nPrevious clinical laboratory experience preferred.\n\nAdditional Requirements:\n\nCurrent BLS certification, or ability to obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.\nReliable transportation and ability to participate in the laboratory's on-call rotation.\nPhysical Requirements\n\nThis position requires frequent standing and walking throughout clinical areas, along with the ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and perform fine motor tasks associated with laboratory equipment and documentation. The position may require assisting with patient movement and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. The employee must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.\n\nWork Environment\n\nThe position is performed in a hospital laboratory environment with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, electrical hazards, and other hospital-related hazards.
