Assistant Manager
Position Description
An Assistant Manager oversees front of house (FOH) operations, provides leadership for FOH staff members, and acts in a supportive role to management. The position requires in-depth knowledge of the work function and the ability to motivate employees to meet our expectations and goals.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Manage the FOH staff by being in charge of group dynamics and operations.
Act as model employee by demonstrating excellent work ethic and performance.
Ensure that all team members are working to their full potential to meet the company’s expectations for quality, productivity, and cleanliness.
Act as liason between Front of House and Back of House to ensure smooth operations and accurate and timely order fulfillment.
Act as liaison between Management and the rest of the staff, to answer questions and guide team members in their job functions.
Job Tasks
Represent Lilac Pâtisserie by being the face of the FOH staff: monitoring the floor, being the point of contact for customer feedback, visiting tables and conversing with customers to ensure service meets company standards, monitoring stock and presentation of product offerings, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers.
Be fully versed in all aspects of each FOH position and shift duties
Enforce schedules and coordinate staffing, act as point-of-contact when issues arise, and cover shifts for employees when they are absent from work.
Manage employees’ performance and maintain an open line of communication with management regarding employee performance and needed progressive discipline and/or corrective actions
Uphold and enforce safety standards of company: through proper signage, FIFO, managing food handler’s cards, proper use of equipment and preventative maintenance, etc.
Oversee FOH cash handling and higher-level POS functions – including issuing refunds, discounts, voiding tickets, and closing out drawers – and assist with bank deposits

Ability to effectively and considerately communicate directions to FOH staff
Ability to constantly communicate with management regarding areas of weakness or strengths among FOH staff, so management can consider this information when evaluating staff performance
Ability to remain calm in a busy and high-stress service environment
Excellent personal skills and customer relations
Honesty and integrity, especially with regard to cash handling
Ability to work as a team and as a leader
Ability to execute multiple orders at one time while maintaining consistency and high standards
Food Handler’s Certification required, which can be obtained within the first 30 days of employment
Experience working as a counter staff/cashier required
Solid mathematical skills
Ability to communicate in and understand English
Physical Requirements
Constant standing/walking
Occasional stooping, kneeling or crawling
Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs
Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps
Constant computer/POS Register and bar equipment usage
Work on computer – mouse, keyboard, etc.
Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine
Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work around POS station
Constant receiving detailed information through oral communication
Constant talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
Frequent distinguishing, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors
Constant clarity of vision at near and/or far distances
Work Environment
Loud, busy work environment with temperature changes
Frequent contact with hot plates, pots, pans and sharp equipment (knives) that may burn, scald, or cut if carried or used improperly
Schedule
Full time work, schedule set by supervisor and based on operational needs, must be available to work weekends and holidays and whenever needed at work for smooth operations
