This is a skilled position responsible for performing skilled laborer duties, assisting the heavy equipment operator to lay and/or dig up pipe in the ground. Pipes include utility/conduit, water, and sewer lines. May also operate various utility equipment within trained capacity. Travel to Roseburg and Salem as needed.\nKey Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)\nMust be a current member or able to join Laborers#737.\nOperate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.\nLocate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.\nShovel earth/dirt to prepare ground trenches for pipes.\nMay dig up existing ground pipes and other debris with manual tools as needed.\nGuide pipes into place while equipment operator maneuvers pipes attached with chains/guide wires.\nAttach trench box to chains/guide wires so it can be lowered or lifted by the equipment operator.\nAttach pipes to chains/guide wires.\nCut pipe and connect pipe using misc. tools, lubricants, glue/grout.\nBuild couplings, connectors, and mechanical joints using parts and tools.\nSet up and move laser level/tripod and pipe lasers.\nPerform job site clean-up.\nFence off job site areas for safety purposes. Set up barricades and safety cones.\nPerform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.\nKeep machines clean and maintained.\nKnowledge of trenching and shoring standards.\nKeep time and material records.\nTravel to and from various locations.\nRoutinely assist other members of the workforce in different areas of production.\nMay operate heavy equipment to include front end loader, excavator, backhoe, or other equipment as needed.\nPromptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.\nTake action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.\nOther tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.\nRegular and timely attendance.\nParticipate in and promote an inclusive work environment.\nQualifications\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\nMust have a valid Oregon Driver's license.\nAbility to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.\nAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.\nSafety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.\nMust be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.\nReport to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.\nMust pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.\nDemonstrates the ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.\nDemonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.\nMust have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n1-2 years’ previous related experience in pipe laying in a construction setting.\n\nWork Environment:\nThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
