This role is critical for overseeing land-based drilling operations in accordance with the company's, operator's, and regulatory bodies’ policies.ResponsibilitiesTechnical Operational Excellence:Optimize operational performance by leveraging internal/external support systems, planning resources, analyzing reports, and ensuring accurate equipment trackingMaintain strong field presence to inspect equipment and operations, resolve rig issues, and support Rig Managers with troubleshooting and maintenanceStrengthen customer performance by monitoring KPIs, setting service benchmarks, and ensuring operations meet target outcomesLead the full employment cycle—hiring, onboarding, development, performance management, discipline, and employee relations—while ensuring rigs remain fully staffed with high-quality talentSet clear expectations for Rig Managers, evaluate leadership and crew competencies, ensure training and compliance, and partner with HR/Training teams to address issues and develop future leadersSafety PerformanceMaintain the standard of safety excellenceEnsure crew training is completed and compliant with company standards Assist in HSE audits, develop and monitor corrective actions, and assist in incident investigationsParticipate in effective safety meetings with good communication, discussing safety trends and concernsCustomer ServiceCommunicate regularly with the operator’s representatives in areas of well planning, operations, and personnel. Elevating both opportunities and concernsSupport the administration of current contracts regarding reimbursable charges, labor increases, and operational summaries to ensure timely invoicing in these areasCollaborate with the Sales on evaluation and preparation of customer interactionsWork with Sales to negotiate contracts, provide cost estimates, trucking bids, and ensure billing accuracyManage the customer relationship through positive and negative situations. Embracing multiple points of contact and supportResolving customer conflict and appropriate resolutionEngage with customers, review drilling programs, and ensure rig capabilities meet or exceed requirementsFinancial ManagementAttend company-directed training, reviews, and utilize resources to close gaps identified in billing processesOversee rentals, purchase orders, and work orders, verifying accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with corporate policiesManage capital and operating expenditures to meet budget and profitability targets, reviewing financial performance monthly with Rig Managers and ensuring adherence to SOX and other financial controlsKnowledge & SkillsStrong technical understanding of rig equipment, including mud pumps, engines, and top drivesEffective communicator with the ability to lead by example and demonstrate professionalism and diplomacyProficient in MS Office applications and quick to learn new software and technologiesHighly motivated, able to inspire others, and adaptable in dynamic operational environmentsStrong multitasking abilities with proven resilience under pressure and commitment to meeting deadlinesEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED required; engineering or technical degree/diploma considered an assetMinimum of 3+ years’ experience in oil well drilling in a Rig Manager capacity, with at least 2 years working in U.S. drilling operations10+ years of experience in the drilling/oilfield industry preferredDrive your career forward with Precision Drilling—apply today and take the lead in shaping the future of energy with a company that values safety, performance, and your potential.
