Director Architecture

The Director of Architecture leads the ground up architectural discipline within IA, driving design excellence, technical rigor, and project delivery across a portfolio of high-impact core and shell, mixed use, repositioning and exterior spaces. This role bridges strategic practice building with execution, ensuring that all work reflects IA’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and client value. The Director serves as a strategic leader, mentor, and key collaborator across studios and disciplines.Job ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy Lead and grow the ground up architectural practice within IA, aligning with firmwide goals and design vision Partner with studio leaders to shape project strategy, staffing, and execution Contribute to business development efforts, including client pitches and thought leadership Identify opportunities to expand IA’s architectural services and market presence Design & Technical Excellence Champion high-quality, innovative design solutions that integrate architecture and interiors Oversee technical design standards, documentation quality, and code compliance Provide guidance on complex design and detailing challenges across projects Ensure consistency in design delivery and alignment with IA’s brand and standards Project Oversight Provide executive-level oversight on key projects from concept through construction Support teams in risk management, budgeting, and scheduling Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure successful outcomes Act as a senior escalation point for technical or delivery challenges Team Development Mentor and develop architectural staff, fostering growth and leadership skills Support recruitment, retention, and performance management of team members Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture Lead training initiatives related to technical skills, codes, and best practices Operational Excellence Establish and refine processes that improve efficiency, quality, and profitability Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards Drive adoption of new tools, technologies, and sustainable practices Monitor and improve project delivery metrics and outcomes QualificationsEducation, Work Experience, and Leadership Licensed Architect (RA) required 12–15+ years of experience in architecture, with significant leadership experience Strong background in ground up architecture Demonstrated success leading complex, large-scale projects Deep knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and documentation standards Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor staff Strong client-facing, communication, and presentation skills Experience with Revit and other relevant design/production tools Key Competencies Strategic leadership and decision-making Design excellence and critical thinking Technical expertise and problem-solving Collaboration and influence Business acumen and client development Mentorship and team building Interior Architects, Inc.
