Current employees of the Minnesota Historical Society only.\n\nFull‑time, regular (approximately 2,080 annual hours)\n\nBenefits: State Employee Group Insurance Program participation, employer‑contributed retirement program, generous vacation and sick time accruals, additional paid holidays.\n\nJob Overview\nThis position exists to develop site public programming, provide direct supervision for site interpretive staff, and coordinate daily program operations.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nPlan and implement public programs, including research, format selection, scheduling, publicity, delivery, and evaluation in collaboration with other site leadership team.\n\nSupport daily administrative operations of the Site.\n\nProvide direct supervision of interpretive program staff and support for interpretive program delivery.\n\nOversee site operations as part of a site leadership team.\n\nEnsure safe and secure daily operation of the site.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\nBachelor's degree in education, museum studies, or related field, or equivalent experience.\n\nFour years of experience developing educational programs and resources in a historical/cultural community organization.\n\nSupervising staff at a historical, educational, cultural organization, or similar organization.\n\nWriting work plans and actively managing employees’ performance to ensure success towards organizational goals.\n\nAbility to conduct programs and oversee operations; to organize work plans, prepare budgets, spend within approved budgets, use financial software, and keep records.\n\nDemonstrated ability to plan for short and long‑term development of programs.\n\nDemonstrated ability to recruit, hire, train, motivate, and oversee staff and contract presenters and performers.\n\nDemonstrated ability to communicate clearly and cooperate with other professionals.\n\nAbility to conduct multiple concurrent projects.\n\nStrong human relations, interpersonal, and leadership skills.\n\nStrong customer service background.\n\nAbility to work as part of a team.\n\nKnowledge of informal learning theories and experience with interpretive methods and techniques.\n\nGood knowledge of Minnesota history and cultural diversity issues.\n\nStrong organizational skills.\n\nUnderstanding of security, safety, and emergency procedures.\n\nAbility to resolve problems quickly and independently.\n\nAbility to work a flexible schedule.\n\nAbility and willingness to travel.\n\nValid driver’s license.\n\nAbility to work a flexible schedule including most weekends from April-October.\n\nDesired Qualifications\n\nKnowledge of policies and procedures of the Minnesota Historical Society.\n\nMultitasking, working effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritizing, and adapting to changing priorities.\n\nWorking independently and taking individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment.\n\nDeveloping and maintaining excellent relations with individuals and groups specific and not specific to the site’s history.\n\nWorking effectively with limited supervision.\n\nSpeaking in public, in order to interpret the history of the site and to promote its programs.\n\nEffectively communicate with individuals and groups.\n\nMentoring colleagues on content and technique.\n\nKnowledge of informal learning theories and experience with interpretive methods and techniques.\n\nKnowledge of Minnesota/Regional history and cultural diversity issues.\n\nKnowledge of Native American history and culture.\n\nKnowledge of Jeffers Petroglyphs site and operations.\n\nKnowledge of the policies and procedures of the Minnesota Historical Society
