Description Job Title: High School Jump Start Teacher Program Dates: July 21-23, 2026 Program Hours: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM Staff Hours: 8:15 AM - 12:15 PM daily Planning Prep Dates: July 20, 2026, for 4 hours and July 23, 2026, for 4 hours Locations: Decatur Central High School Position Overview The High School Jump Start Teacher is responsible for facilitating a short-term transition program designed to prepare incoming 9th-grade students for the academic, behavioral, and social expectations of high school. This program provides students with a realistic preview of the high school experience while helping them build confidence, develop organizational skills, and establish a positive connection to their new school environment before the start of the school year. Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, structured lessons and activities that reflect a typical high school experience.Introduce students to key high school expectations, including:Academic rigor and coursework expectationsTime management and organizationStudy skills and note-taking strategiesAttendance, accountability, and self-advocacyFacilitate activities that help students navigate common high school structures and routines, such as:Class schedules and transitionsGraduation requirements and creditsTechnology platforms and communication toolsExtracurricular opportunities and student involvementSupport students in developing social-emotional skills necessary for a successful transition to high school, including resilience, collaboration, and relationship-building.Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom culture that encourages student engagement and participation.Model positive behavior, professionalism, and school expectations.Provide opportunities for students to ask questions and become familiar with the high school environment and culture.Communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff to support a smooth transition into 9th grade.Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and other staff members to align programming with school expectations and student needs.Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive learning environment. QualificationsValid teaching license in secondary education preferred.Experience working with high school-aged students.Strong understanding of adolescent development and the transition to high school.Ability to build positive relationships with students and families.Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
