Services include geotechnical engineering, environmental, special inspection, construction materials testing, and building science services. Exceeding 30 years in business, GeoTest participates in some of the most interesting development projects in our region. Our company maintains three offices and two accredited construction material laboratories. GeoTest is seeking to fill a Staff Engineer position at either of our Bellingham or Arlington, WA locations. The successful candidate will provide engineering, technical support, and overall assistance during project design and construction. The role requires excellent writing skills, as well as collaborative and effective communication with project managers and other team members. This is a support position within our geotechnical department; responsibilities and duties may vary depending on season, workload, and the needs of the Company and our clients. Responsibilities and Duties: • Provide support to the geotechnical department by assisting with geotechnical investigations and construction. Work will include report writing, engineering analysis, field observation and inspection, geotechnical calculations, and recommendations. Review project drawings, specifications, and construction conditions to assure compliance with geotechnical reports and contractual documents. Research and resolve construction problems. Review and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion into the final report. Assist in development of scope of work and proposals if directed by the Project Manager. Perform services for GeoTest’s clientele spanning a diverse industry base including refineries, military bases, municipal facilities, religious facilities, and manufacturing plants. Works with engineering, geotechnical, and construction team members on a variety of projects. Coordinates with manager, project manager, field technicians, and administrative staff to troubleshoot issues. Work closely with senior level engineers and project managers to gain project management and engineering experience. Generates timely reports for applicable categories. Participates in approved continuing education to enhance job-related skillset. Works on special projects as requested and all other duties as assigned. Familiar with field work (test pits, DCPs, drilling, etc.), utility locate requests, coordinating tasks, gINT entry, and/or other work as assigned by the Project Manager. Qualifications: • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related field: 1 to 2 years of relevant experience required. Preferred certifications/qualifications include (GeoTest provides support to obtain certifications, as necessary): Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) Nuclear Gauge Certification ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification Certified Erosion Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) Certification ICC/WABO Special Inspector Certifications Ability to read construction plans and specifications is a plus. Ability to obtain access at refineries as directed. This will include obtaining a Transportation Worker Authorization Card (TWIC) and enrollment and compliance in both Occupational Safety Council of America (OSCA) and DISA Global Solutions. Refineries are a Drug Free Workplace and require specific drug screening. Strong organizational, computer, and math skills are required. Clean driving record is required. Ability to work outside, work independently, and be a self-starter. Able to travel to construction project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain. Effective oral communication skills are required. Must be able to effectively communicate test results and observations with internal and external stakeholders in a timely fashion. Effective written communication skills are required. Must be able to accurately document test results and observations using a tablet or laptop in the field. Reports must be clear, concise, and use proper grammar. Lift 50-70 lbs from a standing, crouched, or kneeling position, repeatedly. Carry 50-70 lbs in the form of sample bags, buckets, equipment, cylinders, or wheelbarrows. Stand on a hard surface for 8 or more hours per day. Sit or drive for 2 to 4 hours per day. Lift equipment, buckets, or tools on uneven terrain periodically. Walk and carry sample bags/buckets, tools on construction sites, gravel pits, open fields, and/or uneven terrain periodically.
