The Counselor must work closely with other staff and administration to support students at the school. Other duties as assigned.JOB DUTIES:35% - Essential - Program implementation: Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment. Provide individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope effectively to personal, social, academic, career and family concerns. Implement a comprehensive appraisal process by selecting and administering appropriate ability, achievement, and interest tests and by visiting with students and interviewing interested adults and interpreting results to students, teachers, administrators and parents. Update and maintain confidential student records including cumulative transcripts and student files. Identify students with special needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals.35% - Essential - School support: Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. Assist in making recommendations for school curriculum and instructional practices. Assist with the activities of student organizations. Attend and assist when necessary, with school events such as musical programs,athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation and open house.15% - Essential - Policies and procedures: Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Support the value of an education. Support the philosophy and mission of Youth Leadership Academy. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.10% - Essential - Career support: Implement an effective program of educational and career planning. Work effectively with community organizations to ensure student enhancement and engagement. Schedule opportunities for students to visit with resource persons and recruiters about academic and career choices. Maintain a current library of career and college information and assist students in using the information effectively.5% - Essential - Other: Support school development projects.
