Your Role as a Housing Navigator:
This role must have some prior experience working in a related field and have familiarity with local resources, be able to problem solve effectively, and have outstanding communication skills, verbal, written, and non-verbal. They will need to work collaboratively with internal staff, clients, and community partners in a responsive and proactive manner.
What We're Looking For:
Eligibility requirements include:
Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education (2 years of college or relevant experience). We recognize the value of formal education and relevant life experiences. Equivalent life experiences or specialized training relevant to the role will also be considered.
Experience: A minimum of two years of direct experience in supporting youth and families or underserved populations. This can include paid employment, internships, volunteer work, or relevant personal experiences.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent customer service skills, including active listening, professional etiquette, and ability to multitask and triage in a fast passed environment. Knowledge of community resources a requirement.
Employee Expectations: Willingness to collaborate and maintain positive relationships with clients, team members, and community partners. Evidence of professional communication, problem-solving, and maintaining boundaries, as well as usual workplace expectations.

Valid driver's license, good driving record, and auto insurance

Key Responsibilities:
Needs Assessment and Planning:
Conduct assessments to understand each family's housing needs, including income, desired location, and accessibility requirements.
Collaborate with families to develop personalized housing plans that identify suitable housing options and address potential barriers.
Housing Search and Resource Connection:
Research and identify affordable housing options within the community, considering family size, budget, and rental market availability.
Connect families with resources like rental assistance programs, security deposit assistance, and fair housing agencies.
Assist with the application process for rental units, ensuring all forms are completed accurately and required documents are gathered.
Preparation and Advocacy:
Equip families with skills to present themselves competitively to landlords, including budgeting, resume writing, and obtaining references.
Advocate for families during landlord interactions to ensure fair treatment and equal housing opportunities.
Accompany families on housing tours, providing guidance to select the best possible home.
Move-in Support and Follow-up:
Assist families with budgeting for moving costs and securing necessary furniture.
Connect families with ongoing support services like employment resources, financial literacy programs, and childcare assistance.
Conduct follow-up checks to ensure families are adjusting well to their new homes and address any challenges.
Data and Reporting:
Track client needs, barriers, and housing placements using our internal database.
Maintain accurate and timely case notes in compliance with program requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with case managers and community partners to provide holistic support to families.
Maintain effective communication with families, respecting their privacy and confidentiality.
Build and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers to expand housing options.
Additional Responsibilities:
Stay updated on local housing regulations, rental assistance programs, and community resources.
Participate in training on housing search strategies, fair housing laws, and best practices in case management.
Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Physical and Working Conditions:
This role involves a mix of office work, community engagement, and occasional outdoor activities in various weather conditions. Physical demands include walking, standing, lifting, and occasional driving.
