Staff Backend Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to lead a high-impact platform transformation involving large-scale API rewrites, third-party vendor integrations, and backend architecture modernization.This is a strategic engineering role with ownership over core domains such as pricing, inventory, search, and platform infrastructure. You will help establish the backend as the single source of truth, consolidating business logic currently distributed across frontend and multiple services.Why This Role MattersOur engineering organization is undertaking a major architectural reset to improve scalability, reliability, and development velocity. Pricing and inventory systems are currently fragmented, making changes risky and slowing product delivery.As a Staff Engineer, you will:Define backend architecture and technical standardsDrive API redesign and service consolidationLead integrations with multiple external vendorsImprove observability, reliability, and operational excellenceMentor engineers and influence technical direction across multiple teams Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect and build scalable backend systems using Ruby on Rails or Node.jsDesign robust APIs and backend services for complex business domainsConsolidate pricing and inventory logic into a unified backend platformEstablish API contracts, coding standards, and observability practicesLead technical decision-making and mentor engineering teamsBuild reliable production systems with strong operational ownershipCollaborate with product, data, and platform teams to accelerate delivery  Required SkillsStrong experience with Ruby on Rails or Node.jsProven experience operating at Staff Engineer or senior technical leadership levelDeep expertise in backend architecture, API design, and distributed systemsHands-on experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDBStrong AWS cloud experienceExperience with Docker, containerized services, and AWS ECSOperational ownership of production systems, including monitoring and incident response
