You will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, partnering closely with product, design, and data teams to deliver reliable, performant features that delight our community. This is a role for someone who is passionate about developing engineers, driving engineering excellence, and translating business goals into clear technical roadmaps.\n\nResponsibilities:\nLead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement\nSet technical direction and drive the architecture, design, and delivery of scalable, reliable systems powering the Comfrt eCommerce experience\nPartner with product, design, and data teams to define roadmaps, scope projects, and translate business goals into clear engineering plans\nManage team execution, including sprint planning, prioritization, and on-time delivery of high-quality features\nConduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning to support each engineer’s growth\nEstablish and uphold engineering best practices for code quality, testing, code review, documentation, and observability\nOwn technical hiring for the team, from sourcing and interviewing to onboarding new engineers\nDrive operational excellence by improving system performance, reliability, and incident response processes\nRemove blockers and shield the team from distractions while keeping stakeholders informed of progress and risks\nBalance hands-on technical contributions with leadership responsibilities, staying close to the codebase and key technical decisions\nRequirements:\n7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a people management or team lead role\nProven track record of leading, mentoring, and growing high-performing engineering teams\nStrong technical foundation with hands-on experience building and scaling web and backend systems\nExperience with modern web technologies and architectures in a high-traffic eCommerce or direct-to-consumer environments\nLed end‑to‑end engineering for modern Shopify storefronts using Hydrogen, custom Storefront API integrations, and Next.js‑based headless architectures\nSolid understanding of software architecture, system design, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP)\nDemonstrated ability to deliver complex projects on time while managing competing priorities\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering across product, design, and data\nExperience establishing engineering best practices, including code review, testing, CI/CD, and observability\nFamiliarity with agile development methodologies and modern team workflows\nStrong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, and career development\nExperience hiring and building diverse, inclusive engineering teams\nA bias toward action, ownership, and continuous improvement\nExperience collaborating closely with QA engineers to define test strategies, triage issues, and ensure quality across the release cycle\nExperience partnering with UI/UX designers to translate product designs into polished, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces\nWhy Join Comfrt?\nBe part of a purpose-driven company that’s shaping the future of comfort and mental wellness.\nWork in a supportive, creative environment where your ideas and growth are valued.\nEnjoy Comfrt benefits such as generous paid time off, company-covered health insurance, 5% 401k match, and discounts on all Comfrt products!\nJoin a passionate team making an impact on exciting projects, all while enjoying the flexibility and collaborative support of a fully remote environment.\nComfort is an equal opportunity employer.
