In addition to painting tasks, the Painter I may be assigned other duties when painting work is not available.\r\nGENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Painter / Blaster I at Vital Link, Inc., which specializes in the fabrication of structural steel for commercial, industrial, and military applications, as well as acoustical and sound suppression products, is responsible for ensuring that all assemblies are properly finished, including painting and galvanizing, before shipment. This role requires experience and knowledge in operating air and airless spray painting equipment, understanding and implementing paint manufacturers instructions and MSDS sheets, and effectively sequencing work. Additionally, the position involves safely moving and setting up heavy materials by hand, with overhead cranes, and using forklifts.\r\nESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESVerify that parts and assemblies are cleaned and blasted according to shop drawings, cut sheets, and manufacturer's instructions.\r\nConfirm that parts and assemblies are cleaned, prepped, primed, and painted in line with shop drawings, cut sheets, and manufacturer's specifications.\r\nAdhere to all procedures, inspections, and instructions outlined in the work control sheets and manufacturer's guidelines, and document these processes. Maintain material and part identification throughout finishing activities.\r\nInform VLI Supervision/Management in advance about the supplies, primers, paints, thinners, and miscellaneous equipment required for planned tasks. Report any design or detail issues to the Prefab Supervisor or Plant Manager immediately.\r\nCreate and use tables, supports, and fixtures needed to support assemblies and components during finishing work.\r\nCoordinate your tasks with other workers and Department Supervisors to ensure smooth workflow.\r\nUse appropriate safety practices, equipment, and gear at all times.\r\nReport any equipment or machinery issues to the Maintenance Department or Management promptly. Stop production on any equipment or machinery that cannot be operated safely.\r\nKeep the finish area, equipment, tools, and supplies organized. Maintain the paint shed by properly marking, storing, and preparing containers for disposal by the Maintenance Department.\r\nCoordinate loading activities with the Shipping and Receiving Department, including arranging for the galvanizing of parts and the return or final shipment of galvanized materials.\r\nNotify management in advance when supplies such as thinner, paint, and filters are running low to ensure timely replenishment.\r\nProperly apply application of various coating types required by customer contracts.\r\nMust be able to hear and speak clearly to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and managers.\r\nPerform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.\r\nEnsure activities are conducted in accordance with Vital Link International Standards Organization (ISO9000) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.ISO9000 SPECIFIC DUTIESBe familiar with and understand Vital Link Quality Policy and company objectives.\r\nUnderstand required ISO9000 specific Procedures and Work Instructions.\r\nComplete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.\r\nParticipate in Vital Link Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.\r\nParticipate in ISO9000 training as required.\r\nCooperate with Auditors.\r\nReport any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEA high school diploma is preferred but not mandatory.\r\nA minimum of 1 year of experience is preferred, but skills, knowledge, and discipline will be the key factors in the selection process.PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to stand, stoop, crouch, and bend for extended periods.\r\nFull range of body movements, including the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, as well as climbing, bending, reaching, and crouching for prolonged periods.\r\nCapability to lift moderate to heavy steel parts, equipment, and supplies regularly.WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position involves working primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
