Your students will vary in age from prekindergarten to adult-transition, depending on the school to which you will be assigned within the district, depending on the school to which you will be assigned within the district. Their challenges may range from mild to moderate to severe. The level of intervention and support they require will be determined on a case-by-case basis, according to the parameters set further in their individual education plans (IEP) or 504 plans. Your primary responsibilities will involve helping students learn to manage their behavior to optimize their own learning experience. You will also play an important role in preserving a positive learning environment for their classmates and teachers. You will help students meet individual behavioral and academic goals by encouraging positive behaviors and setting appropriate boundaries. Teachers and administrators will also rely on you to observe and report students’ progress towards goals outlined in their IEP/504 plans.\n\nDuties and Responsibilities\nAssist with the implementation and monitoring of individualized education plans (IEP) or 504 plans\nMaintain and keep client service logs up to date for each student for whom services are provided\nMaintain confidentiality and exercise discretion pertaining to the school environment\nSupport students in transition to general education through the use of inclusion support techniques, such as shadow prompting\nAssist in the management and shaping of student behavior with positive reinforcement strategies\nAssist and or tutor students individually or in small groups\nMonitor and supervise students both inside the classroom and during outside activities\nContinually assist in identifying and developing new reinforcement options that will be motivating to students\nEnsure all services are performed in accordance with state laws and school policies\nCollaborate and consult with school and district staff to support student progress\nDeliver hands-on and supervised toileting and diapering assistance to students while maintaining dignity, privacy, and full compliance with internal policies\nAssist in maintaining a neat, orderly, and clean learning environment\nAssist BCBA with observations and data collection for assessments\nAccept and apply feedback provided by supervisors\n\nRequirements\nMust be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds\nMust be able to provide life-saving interventions if needed. This includes the ability to perform at least 5 sets of hands only CPR for roughly 2 minutes\nMust be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time\nMust be able to sit on the floor, stand, or walk for extended periods of time which normally will be the length of the school day and include the physical demands of assisting a student or students in and outside of a classroom space\nMust be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan while working with children with challenging behavior\nMust have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection\nMust be able to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.\nMust have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means\nMust have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites based on job assignment\nMust be flexible and willing to work in a variety of schools and settings. Must have the ability to be understanding, patient, friendly, and show a receptive attitude toward children with special needs and must demonstrate the ability to remain calm under stressful conditions\nAbility to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a level required for successful job performance. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the school district. Ability to meet and interact with teachers and students with tact, courtesy, and discretion\nHighschool-level math proficiency\n\nQualifications\nEducation\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\nExperience\nPrior ABA experience working with children in a home, facility, or school setting is preferred, but not required\nLicensure and Certification\nBLS certification through American Heart Association\n\nThis pay range represents Covelo Group's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting.
