AIS is seeking part-time certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists in several areas in Georgia (Appling, Bacon, Bleckley, Brantley, Savannah, Toombs, Truetlan, and Ware) to join our team of independent contractors. Please apply here Read on to find out what you will need to succeed in this position, including skills, qualifications, and experience.Orientation and Mobility Specialists are itinerant and work in local school divisions to provide quality services to students with visual impairments and blindness. This position is part-time, with 10-15 hours per week.The Orientation and Mobility Specialist functions as a member of a student's educational team to provide comprehensive assessments and related services to school-aged students. The Orientation and Mobility Specialist assists in developing and implementing IEPs specific to visual impairments. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of assessment and instructional practices, evidence-based research, recommended best practices, technologies available for low- and high-tech travel, and the expected roles and responsibilities of an Orientation and Mobility Specialist within a school environment.Qualifications:Must hold a Professional Certification and/or licensure in Orientation and MobilityPreferred work-related experience as an Orientation and Mobility SpecialistThe successful candidate will have:Considerable knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and proceduresExperience writing and implementing IEPsExperience conducting and writing Orientation and Mobility assessments and recommendationsWorking knowledge of travel skills for students with blindness or low visionExperience providing consultation and training to teachers and service providers relating to visual impairmentsExcellent human relations, interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, organizational, and planning skills are requiredComprehensive knowledge of the characteristics of individuals with a variety of unique abilities, especially visual impairmentsThe ability to recognize and respond to individual student differencesThe ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with parents, co-workers, school staff, and service providersPlease apply at under job placements!
