This is a hands-on, client-facing role built for someone who loves implementing technology, solving problems in the field, and taking ownership of their work from kickoff to close.As a Project Engineer, you will deploy and configure IT solutions at client sites — everything from end user equipment to network infrastructure — working within a structured project methodology that keeps projects on time and on budget. You’ll partner closely with our Project Manager (PM), vCIOs, and Design Desk to deliver implementations that clients can count on.This is not a help desk role. You will be managing real projects, working directly with clients, and contributing technical expertise that shapes our service standards. IT is unpredictable — that’s what makes it interesting.What You’ll DoLead Project ImplementationsDeploy, configure, and validate IT solutions at client sites and datacenters according to project scope and technical specificationsWork through projects using a structured methodology: Plan → Prepare → Implement → Operate → OptimizeStage and prep equipment prior to deployment — organized, documented, and ready to rollExecute maintenance windows and cutovers on schedule, including afterhours when requiredComplete technical documentation at project close to confirm alignment and support handoffManage scope: identify and ticket additional service requests that fall outside original project scope with client approvalOwn Your Ticket Queue & TimeReview your daily schedule in the PSA, confirm work can be completed, and communicate proactively with the PM when it can’tEnter all time daily — accurately coded for billable vs. non-billable — so project budgets stay current and KPI reporting stays cleanMonitor assigned tickets, prevent aging, escalate when needed, and close completed work without delayHit and sustain an 85% billing utilization target and 100% effective utilization — these matter and we track themShow Up for ClientsAttend Project Kickoff, Status, and Closure meetings — professional, prepared, and client-readyCommunicate clearly with clients across all levels, from end users to decision makersHandle emergency support incidents and on-call rotations when assignedParticipate in new client onboarding projects, completing PE-assigned tasks within the onboarding workplanCollaborate Across the TeamReceive project Knowledge Transfer (KT) meetings from vCIOs and the PM — ask the right questions, confirm requirements, document takeawaysPeer review proposals for solution validation and assist the Design Desk Engineer with technical accuracyAttend daily huddles, weekly PS team meetings, bi-weekly PE sync-ups with the PM, and bi-weekly Standards Committee meetingsShare your field knowledge to help build out TotalCare IT’s technology benchmarking libraryA Day in the LifeHere’s what a typical day looks like for a Project Engineer at TotalCare IT:Morning Huddle: Kick off the day with the PS team. Share what you wrapped up yesterday, your billing utilization, what’s on your plate today, and any roadblocks you need help with.Schedule Review: Pull up the PSA, confirm your day is lined up, and touch base with the PM if anything needs to shift before you’re on the road.On-Site Work: Head to a client site to complete a server cutover, deploy new workstations, or configure network equipment — working through your project tasks methodically and documenting as you go.Sync Up: Drop into a PE sync-up meeting with the PM to review project status, flag any timeline risks, and verify deadlines are still achievable.End of Day: Enter your time before you close out — accurate, complete, and coded correctly. Update ticket statuses. Set yourself up for tomorrow.QualificationsRequired4+ years of hands-on computer support and IT implementation experienceSolid troubleshooting skills across desktop hardware, peripherals, networking equipment, and softwareExperience with Windows environments, Microsoft 365 / Office, and common business applicationsStrong organizational skills — you can juggle multiple projects and tasks without dropping the ballClear, professional communication with clients and teammates at all levelsMust be local to the Boise, ID metro area — this role is fully on-site, no exceptionsPreferredCompTIA Network+ or Security+ certification — strongly preferredPrevious experience working at a Managed Service Provider (MSP)Experience with MAC environmentsFamiliarity with PSA tools (ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA, or similar) for ticketing and time entryExperience with structured project methodologies and project documentationBachelor’s degree, technical school degree, or equivalent hands-on experience in ITHow Success is MeasuredWe believe in clear expectations.
