Court Security Deputy, Sheriff Department

Court Security Deputy Provides security at the Alamosa County Justice Center. Work schedule is usually 8 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday.Essential Job Functions:Observes all persons entering the court room, their movement and their activities; limit access to the bench and other restricted areas.Monitors entry magnetometer.Searches the interior of the court room, judicial chambers, jury room, restrooms and other restricted areas each morning prior to the arrival of any other court participants. May need to conduct similar searches following recesses to assure the rooms are clear of weapons, explosives, or contraband.Assist all court personnel with security issues as needed.Provide direction and general information to persons entering the building.Assists generally in court regarding signing of orders and other documents.Sees to the needs of the jury to include monitoring, directing and controlling juror activities, including verdict deliberation period, to ensure performance of court duties in compliance with orders, rules and regulations by observing and informing jurors of proper procedures when appropriate.Assures that criminal defendants, who are in custody, are prevented from having physical contact with family, friends, or spectator in order to prevent the passing of weapons of contraband.Maintains confidentialityEnforces laws and ordinances and investigates violations of the same.Follows department policies and procedures. Must be trained in the use of communication equipment, firearms, Electronic Control Board, stun devises, camera equipment, handcuffs and leg irons, tactical equipment, bullet proof vest, PR24 Baton or ASP, restraint equipment, fire control equipment, and O.C. Spray. Position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The position is required to stand, sit for long periods of time, talk and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across an audience. Occasionally, the position may stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist and push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. The employee is required to communicate both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and drive for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move from 50 to 100 pounds. The noise level may be very quiet to noisy depending on the situation.
