The company specializes in handling all aspects of mortgage account administration with a dedication to excellence.The Assistant Controller is a key member of the finance leadership team, partnering with the Controller and accounting leaders to oversee the accounting function and ensure accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting. This role leads core processes such as month-end close, general ledger governance, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, consolidation preparation, and financial analysis. The Assistant Controller evaluates accounting policies, journal entries, and financial reports to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies while supporting strong internal controls, audit readiness, and scalable operations in a regulated loan servicing environment. Additionally, this role develops and manages the accounting team through coaching, performance management, and mentorship to build a high-performing and compliant organization. Principal Duties:1. Lead monthly and annual close processes, including reconciliations, consolidations, eliminations, variance analysis, and assist in producing timely and accurate financial statements.2. Govern the general ledger, including preparation and review of complex journal entries, accounting policies and chart of accounts integrity.3. Oversee balance sheet integrity by managing reconciliations, resolving reconciling items, and maintaining strong controls.4. Manage intercompany accounting activities, and elimination entries, supporting multi entity consolidation and legal entity reporting.5. Review and deliver financial reporting and analytical insights to senior management, partnering cross functionally to explain results and support business decision making.6. Propose, implement, and maintain internal controls; develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and operating standards; and support audit and regulatory requirements.7. Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team, providing technical guidance, serving as backup as needed, driving process improvements, and performing other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related field or equivalent experience.2. Five plus years' experience applying accounting principles and theories.3. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage an accounting staff.4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and SQL queries.5. Prior experience using General Ledger systems.6. Maintain a calm demeanor while managing multiple projects with competing deadlines. Preferred Qualifications:1. Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other closely related field.2. Mortgage or Financial Services industry experience.3. CPA License4. Ability to multi-task.5. Adaptability to change.
