Prior venture capital or investment experience is not required and can be learned on the job. Experience or demonstrated interest in investing, startups, or private markets is a plus.\n\nThe role combines software development, technical diligence, market research, and support for portfolio companies.\n\nSoftware Development & Technical Ownership\n\nA core part of the role will be building, improving, and maintaining the firm's proprietary software and technical infrastructure.\n\nYou will:\n\nDevelop, maintain, and improve the firm's proprietary software platform, Lighthouse.\nBuild and integrate internal tools that support data-driven investing, sourcing, diligence, and portfolio management.\nWork across backend, frontend, infrastructure, APIs, and data integrations as needed.\nMaintain and improve application reliability, deployments, monitoring, security, and infrastructure.\nEvaluate new technologies and tools that can improve the firm's internal workflows.\nTroubleshoot application, infrastructure, deployment, and integration issues.\nTechnical Diligence\n\nYou will use your engineering background to help evaluate B2B technology companies being considered for investment.\n\nResponsibilities may include:\n\nReviewing software architecture and technical infrastructure.\nEvaluating APIs, integrations, vendors, and implementation requirements.\nAssessing product roadmaps and technical scalability.\nHelping evaluate product and technology differentiation and IP.\nIdentifying technical risks and opportunities.\nWorking with the investment team to translate technical findings into clear diligence conclusions.\n\nPrior investment diligence experience is not required. We will train the right technical candidate on our investment process and diligence frameworks.\n\nMarket Research & Investment Support\n\nAs you develop within the role, you will also support the investment team with:\n\nMarket analysis and opportunity identification.\nResearch into emerging technology sectors and investment themes.\nMarket mapping and initial screening of potential investments.\nCustomer, founder, and industry research.\nParticipation in conferences, incubators, university demo days, and other startup ecosystems.\nDevelopment of investment materials, including Investment Memos and Scorecards.\nAnalysis of market size, product-market fit, competitive positioning, business metrics, and investment risks.\nPortfolio Company Support\n\nYou may also work directly with portfolio companies on areas such as:\n\nProduct and technical strategy.\nTechnical architecture and integrations.\nTalent and technology needs.\nBusiness development and market expansion.\nPortfolio reporting and performance metrics.\nFuture financing and fundraising support.\nWhat We're Looking For\nApproximately 2–4 years of professional software development experience.\nStrong hands-on programming experience, ideally including Python, JavaScript, and/or PHP.\nExperience developing and maintaining web applications.\nComfortable working across different parts of the technology stack rather than specializing in only one narrow area.\nExperience with some combination of:\nLinux / Ubuntu\nAWS, including EC2, S3, IAM, Security Groups, and backups\nDocker / Docker Compose\nNginx, reverse proxies, SSL, and DNS\nCloudflare\nMySQL or similar relational databases\nGit / GitHub\nAPIs and third-party integrations\nDeployment and rollback processes\nCredential and secrets management\nMonitoring, backups, security, and incident troubleshooting\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to understand unfamiliar technical systems quickly and form independent opinions about them.\nInterest in working closely with founders, investors, and technology companies.\nB.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field preferred.\nNice to Have\n\nThe following are helpful, but not required:\n\nExperience working at a FinTech, DeepTech, AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, quantum, or B2B software company.\nVenture capital, private equity, investment banking, investment research, or other investing experience.\nExperience conducting technical or commercial due diligence.\nExposure to early-stage startups, accelerators, incubators, angel investing, or university venture ecosystems.\nExperience with market research, investment analysis, or financial modeling.\nInterest in venture capital and private markets.\nSpanish or Japanese language skills.\nWho Might Be a Great Fit\n\nYou may be a strong fit if you are currently a Software Engineer, Backend Engineer, Full Stack Engineer, Platform Engineer, or Technical/Data Engineer and are excited about using your technical background to evaluate and work with emerging technology companies.\n\nYou do not need to already be an investor.
