At BFS, youll be equipped with all the tools, training, and resources you need, and youll be empowered to try new things, gain new experiences, and build a career with unlimited horizons.\r\nPurposeUnder general supervision performs routine loading and unloading of materials within yard or work site; assembles load packages into truck for delivery to customer job sites.\r\nEssential Duties And ResponsibilitiesLoads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trucks or customer vehicles and installs strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.\r\nPerforms load-building, determining the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and capacity of delivery vehicle to ensure load is balanced and safe for hauling.\r\nReads work order or follows oral instructions to determine materials to be moved or loaded.\r\nConveys materials to or from storage to designated area using hand truck, electric dolly, forklift or other device.\r\nOpens containers, units, slings and loads, using steel cutters, crowbar, claw-hammer or other hand tools.\r\nAttaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales or other containers so as to provide for correct identification of items.\r\nUnderstands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.\r\nOther duties may be assigned.\r\nSupervisory ResponsibilitiesThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.\r\nMinimum RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.\r\nHigh school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and three (3) months experience performing these or similar tasks; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Forklift certification required.\r\nCompetenciesRequires forklift operator certification\r\nKnowledge of company products sufficient to take into account weight, shape and handling requirements\r\nAbility to read and write to handle work orders and labeling tasks\r\nManual dexterity\r\nAbility to use simple hand tools\r\nKnowledge of safety procedures while performing forklift driving and materials handling tasks\r\nAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions\r\nAbility to count items and verify against prepared lists\r\nWork Environment / Physical ActivityWork is performed within a production or yard environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, equipment noise and dust.\r\nMust be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.\r\nMay be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing or kneeling.\r\nAt BFS, we want you and your career to be greater than what you ever could have expected.
