The work you will do: Equipment Operator This position will operate small and medium-sized equipment, perform maintenance and assist with repairs on equipment. Where you will work: District Three Midway Operations Center 17 Commerce Blvd. Midway, FL 32343 Your specific responsibilities: Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. After obtaining the required Instructional CDL permit or license, operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to; dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance; Supervises Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities. Oversees crews performing maintenance activities. Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision. Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs. Performs Maintenance of Traffic (MOT). Assists with crew activity reports as needed. The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of: Mathematical calculations. Standard safety rules and procedures. Skills in: Operating a variety of hand and power tools. Operating and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles. Ability to: Operate a variety of heavy equipment. Read and understand job related materials and fill out reports and forms. Maintain and repair highways, bridges, and/or other highway structures. Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds. Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl, or bend on a frequent basis. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic. Work independently. Stand for an extended period of time. Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements: Possess a valid Class "E" Driver's License and obtain a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position. Other Job-Related Requirements: Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies. While on-duty status, the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver's license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. The incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain, training, certification, a satisfactorily criminal background check and any additional requirements provided by the Department of Corrections in order to supervise inmates. Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it. Minimum Qualifications: Requires one year experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles. A Class "E" Driver's License is required at time of hire. A CDL Class "B" License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a CDL Class "B" license with air brakes within 10 months after appointment to the position.
