Position Type:Middle School Teaching/ScienceDate Posted:5/5/2026Location:Harbor Lights Middle SchoolJob Title: Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 6 8)Reports To: Building PrincipalFLSA Status: ExemptPosition SummaryThe Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned science instruction to students in grades 6 8. The teacher will foster curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry while supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of middle school learners. This position requires a commitment to equity, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver rigorous, standards-based science instruction aligned with Oregon State Science Standards (NGSS).Develop and implement engaging lessons that promote inquiry, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and students identified as talented and gifted.Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.Create a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that supports student engagement and achievement.Integrate literacy, math, and technology into science instruction where appropriate.Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, and instructional coaches to support student success.Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance.Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations.Participate in staff meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and district professional development opportunities.Supervise students in classrooms and other assigned areas, ensuring student safety and appropriate behavior.Support school-wide initiatives, programs, and activities. Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)Familiarity with Accelerate Learning instructional resources.Experience using student information systems such as Synergy.Experience with educator evaluation and professional growth platforms such as Frontline My Professional Growth. Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Science, Education, or a related field.Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement(s) (or ability to obtain prior to start date).Demonstrated knowledge of middle school instructional practices and adolescent development. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong understanding of scientific concepts across life, physical, and earth sciences.Ability to design and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction.Effective classroom management and behavior support strategies.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instruction.Commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching practices.Proficiency in basic technology tools for instruction and communication.
